Its like spiked hair do-rags the mosh pit and the corner store. Its like bad meets good and life meets death.

notes

The year is 2002 and the world is filled with corruption. The people cry out. They cry out like never before. The cry echoes out into the darkness that we call outer space. The cry penetrates the wob of death. A child stirs. He hears their cries. He knows its time. Time for a change. Time for a revolution. Time for a hero. Time for a warrior.

Timothy Dark was born in the 1970's, and had a dual upbringing, living with his parents in East Elmhurst, Queens on weekends, and staying with his Grandma in the South Bronx during the week. He soon developed a love for the culture of the Bronx, which he affectionately calls "the Boogie" hanging with the local crews around Melrose Ave. Break dancing, graffiti, gang fights, drug dealing, it was all around, it was all inspiration. But one thing appealed to him more than any of these things, and that was the music. Melle Mel, The Fat Boys, Salt and Pepa, Run DMC, Slick Rick, Public Enemy, Michael Jackson, they all amazed and inspired him. He soon developed his own skills as a rapper and went through rap group after rap group, never satisfied. In 2002 after the break-up of his last group, Fallen Angelz, he began work on his latest album Dark Warrior.
The album chronicles the thoughts and dreams of Timothy's alter ego the Dark Warrior, a being from the stars who has arrived on Earth to establish a new church of love and music. Life imitates art sometimes for just as the album was released Timothy began to explore the East Village's infamous Antifolk open mikes. There he found himself embraced by the acoustic-punk misfits on the scene. He began collaborating regularly with the likes of Lach, Joie Dead Blonde Girlfriend, Joe Bendik, and other stars of this burgeoning new movement. Suddenly, a rapper from the South Bronx was headlining the premiere Antifolk club, The Sidewalk Café, in the East Village.
Today, Timothy Dark and the Dark Warrior's goals are one. As expressed in a recent interview with antifolkonline.com " I want to start my own church, well, not so much a church like a building per se, but a following of people who will come out and listen to what I am rapping about. I want a mobile church that moves with me. I don't want a record deal. If people come out and listen and pay 5-10 dollars to see me, buy some CD's and T-shirts so that I can have some money to live on, give my family money and have money to keep the church running, I'd be happy."
With sold out shows and a new album in the works it looks like Timothy's dreams are becoming reality.

  • Positive Alternative and Musical Hip Hop
    author: lanceKC

"Dark Warrior" is a positive message Hip Hop album from the indie underground. Dark's rhymes are delivered tight... bombastic where they need to be... melodic elsewhere. What we have here is a collective of skilled producers and musicians mixin' in real instruments with well-crafted programming/sequencing to create a sound around Timothy that is both highly accessible to mainstream Hip Hop, and creative and original enough to reach out to a broader audience. From my outside-the-community perspective, this is exactly the Hip Hop album I'm always looking for... intelligent and informed lyrics that seek Social Justice and Harmony with outside the box creativity. This is a very musical album... not a cookie cutter installment of unfocused rage from the latest OG. The difference Timothy Dark presents with "Dark Warrior" is this: Yes, he's angry and upset at his world... he knows how to spit the venomous rap. He knows racism, classism and general hatred is out there... yet he offers resolution. This is Real Soul Music. The "Dark Warrior" may just be the everyday super hero we need.... -=peace+light=- -lanceKC- http://www.mp3.com/zygoteproductions
