"Coyote's Dream", the long-awaited follow-up to Tim Grimm's timeless "Heart Land", is finally here! Once again, Tim's music blends elements of Country, Folk, and Roots/Americana. The music is rooted in a sense of place and Tim traverses our interior and exterior landscapes equally well. His work has often been compared to Johnny Cash (past and present) and it's akin to what Nancy Griffith once said of herself: "too country for the folk traditionalists and too folk-y for the country purists"!

The breadth of songwriting is incredibly vast in the new cd, from the opening ballad "Raining" about a man trapped in his house in a rainstorm and forced to reflect on his life, to the haunting title track "Coyote's Dream", a sort of neo-Luddite dream in which "all the lights went out, like something in the Bible was going down...", to the Woody Guthrie ballad "1913 Massacre" learned from his pal Ramblin' Jack Elliott. We hear the rural rumblings that have shaped Grimm's life but we are also invited in to a bigger picture, as evident in the achingly beautiful "Slipped Away". This foray into edgier territory gives a bigger scope to the cd and we also get the pleasure of the incredible musicianship of banjo-man Greg Cahill (of Special Consensus) and Grammy nominated mandolin player, Don Stiernberg.

Grimm is also joined on the recording by Jason Wilber, guitarist of the John Prine Band. Wilber lends his awesome talents on both electric and acoustic guitar, as well as mandolin, and he also shares the producing credit with Grimm. Ramblin' Jack Elliott joins Tim on the rockin' "Buffalo Skinners" (which Grimm learned from Ramblin' Jack many years ago) and Stacy Earle sings on the sweet "Browning Mountain", a tale of love and wonder. Pianist and guitarist Dan Lodge-Rigal plays beautifully on the recording, as he did on "Heart Land", and bass player Todd Smith and drummer Jamie Reid round out the often lush and full sound. Tim's wife, Jan Lucas, provides back-up vocals on a number of tracks, most notably "Heaven", a tune of Jason Wilber's, recorded lovingly here to close the record.

Tim Grimm is a musical storyteller and his voice evokes a "mellow Bruce Springsteen with the clarity of Johnny Cash". His stories are rich with descriptive detail and he conveys a warmth and intimacy that draws us in. "Coyote's Dream" is the culmination of two years of thoughtful songwriting and insightful production. He is not afraid to take his time with a few of the songs, nor is he afraid to spring to life with all the joy and energy the band has to offer. "Coyote's Dream" is a gem.

    It would be very tough to pick my favorite Tim Grimm CD. These tracks just strong-arm you to a place where you cannot help but take a moment to reflect on life and feel thankful for what you have. Beautiful!

    I thought I wld never find anyone I liked better than Peter, Paul and Mary Until I caught wind of Tim Grimm. As a left over from the folk era it gets hard to find GOOD MUSIC, Tim really fills the gap. He adds just enough country to make his music truly great! I cannot wait for his next CD.

    Tim Grimm's Americana syle of singing and songwriting rival that of Dylan and Bob Martin. Coyote Dreams is every good as Heartland, maybe better. Caught his act in Londonderry,NH at the Muse at the Grey Goose, what a great show.

    I first heard about Tim Grimm through a Prine fan. I was sent the URL to his website and was urged to listen to the music clips. The first one I heard was Buffalo Skinners. I was hooked and had to have Coyotes Dream. I was immediately drawn in by his voice - the warmth and fullness. The songs are all great. You are pulled into these wonderful stories, a few of which are traditional, however most are written by Grimm. I was surprised when he started singing Woody Guthrie's 1913 Massacre, a song that tears my heart out. I've seen Arlo perform this song numerous times and I will have to say, I love Grimm's version of the song as well. I can't believe I hadn't heard of Tim Grimm before. He's a very talented singer/songwriter. If you haven't taken the time to listen to the music clips available, I urge you to do so. You'll be hooked too.

    This album was sent to me by mistake, but my husband had listened to the sound clips after I had ordered Heartland. He loved BUFFALO SKINNERS--so I called and said I WANT TO KEEP IT--JUST GO AHEAD AND SEND ME HEARTLAND! Like another listener said, I could hardly get past the first song, but all songs are SOOOOOO good. I wish all mistakes turned out this great. Tim Grimm is sort of like the James Thom of music. He transports you to another place and time.

    In a world that's rapidly going bonkers, good musical surprises are worth their weight in gold. Tim Grimm's "Coyote's Dream" is one of them. What you've got here is a collection of songs that draw you in again and again, as each track kicks in. You enter a song, walk around in its images and atmosphere, then leave it. The few seconds of silence in between each track give you a chance to regroup, and then....you're drawn right into the next song. And so it goes until the end of the collection. I guess in modern terminolgy, this CD is a real "interactive" experience. Each song unfolds around you, and you're right THERE. This is fine songwriting, "just right" performances and arrangements, and a heck of good way to spend 47 minutes! Pick up a copy, dim the lights, and go traveling for a while.

    Tim's latest leaves the front porch reverent simplicity of "Heartland" to travel both enlightened and darkened paths. This effort comfortably varies in musical styles and the lyrics require reflection, but the listener is rewarded richly. Beyond doubt, my favorite recording of the year!

    The CD "Coyote's Dream" is compelling with the stories that it tells. It covers several classic folk tunes, but mostly it covers Tim Grimm's stories of his life. The CD is fantastic, but Tim Grimm's songs have more heart and soul when he performs them live.

    How this guy is not more well known beats me. As good an album as you are likely to hear all year. Buffalo Skinners is worth the price of the cd alone. In other words just buy it you will not be disappointed.

    I put on "Coyote's Dream" and immediately had a problem: I couldn't get past the first tune. I kept getting up and re-playing "Raining".... it played three times before it dawned on me I'd never get through the rest of the cd....These folk-flavored songs evoke the rural rumblings that shape Grimm's life-- messages we can all connect with.
