Fields of England finds Tim Bragg singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist ill at ease with England in 2006 and his place in it. 6 of the 10 tracks on this well-produced CD paint a bleak picture of the England we live in today and in another song Bragg is looking over his shoulder and thinking of the lives lost in the Great War of 1914-18. These are songs of protest about what is happening in England’s green fields; the growing gap between rich and poor; the erosion of the countryside through increased housing; the continued industrialisation of farming on an ever larger scale and the increasing power of the media - all subjects that Bragg deals with in a bluesy, jazzy style reminiscent of Van Morrison.
There has to be some light to go with all the shade and this comes on the final 2 tracks “England’s Seal” a reggae song with clever lyrics and “Change of Heart” a song about acceptance and making the most of what you have.
“Fields of England” is not easy listening, it is 10 thoughtfully crafted tracks of longing and despair with a dash of hope….there is always hope.

I have just spent a very enjoyable 36 minutes and 14 seconds giving my complete and undivided attention to the latest creative offering from Tim Bragg!
Despite having a rough of idea of what I might expect I was very pleasantly surprised by the last four tracks. The keyboards were a joy to listen to, for both the playing of, and the sounds used, and likewise the guitar on 'Change Of Heart'. Drumming on this track is reminiscent of Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac)! The rhythm of 'England's Seal', although enjoyable, seems oddly out of place.
Lyrics are interesting, and of course very relevant, and the singing passionate. A one man, or very nearly one man production has a certain intimacy and sincerity that a group effort might lack, and which also gives it a certain charm.
You are to be praised for your efforts and the quality in your quantity!

First I must confess that I like lots of different types and styles of music but know next to nothing about any of them. When it comes to songs I like a good tune and/or interesting words. So it was with that simplistic view that I listened to Tim Bragg’s latest CD, Fields of England. The first track was not to my liking as an opener and I hoped the others would not be similar – and they weren’t. Tim must be congratulated on having written such a varied collection of songs and to have sung them in such a professional way. Some of the tunes are catchy and enjoyable on a first listening and others become so subsequently.
Tim has been a musician for many years and he puts his heart and soul into his music. He is also concerned about what is happening to England and is, among other things, critical of environmental damage and the denial of free speech. Given the state of our country it is unsurprising and natural that the songs are a bit on the gloomy side. No solutions radical or otherwise are offered but maybe that is something Tim will offer in the future. Perhaps writing and singing such songs is part of the solution – a political statement – a positive act…
Fields of England contains a wide variety of songs that are well sung by an Englishman who is deeply concerned about what is being done to England.

Congratulations on the Fields of England CD! I've been waiting for someone to dedicate a full CD to England…It’s really good stuff. The songs are a good mix of styles, but somehow keeping your unique sound -well done! It’s well worth promoting.
