notes

The Strap-Ons formed in Norfolk VA in 1996 originally as The Pimps. The Strap-Ons are a pure punk rock 'n' roll band with two guitars that are rounded out by snotty vocals and plenty of bottom end. They tour throughout the United States. The band is featured on A Fistfull of RockNRoll Vol. 10 as well as various other compilations.

Here are some review about the CD:(From record reviews of songs on CD:

- Well shit howdy! This is great! Absurd lyrics, that are as much shouted as they are sung, over four cuts of very catchy mid-tempo punk rock, which sounds like a mix of THE SEX PISTOLS, DEAD BOYS, HEARTBREAKERS and '50s rock and roll. Now, I know Many bands are mining this territory as of late, but trust me, this band stands head and shoulders above much of the pack. Very snotty, very catchy, very cool and the song "strap on Sally" is a must hear. ----(RM) Maximum RockNRoll June 99 #193

- The musical parts sure are catchy ----Cuss Baxter Flipside #121

- This totally rocks it out '77 style, and has some of the coolest '77 punk songs I've heard in a long time. 1977 to be exact. If the track "Dying Nation" was put out 23 years ago it would still be today, the undisputed `official punk rock anthem'. It's like, "Here lies this dying nation, kiss the last generation, gumball junkie, love life flunkies, we're the lost generation." Fucking genius! Rhyming nation with generation, and then generation with generation: pure gold! ----Ken worldwidepunk.com July 200

I've seen The Strap-Ons at three shows in Roanoke. The first time was purely accidental. I went out with a friend to see another band play and The Stap-Ons were playing with that band. The club's sound system really sucked so it was hard trying to hear what the singer was saying and the guitars were really loud, but despite that I gotta say that these guys rocked the house. I was totally amazed at the energy from the singer despite the crappy PA, especially since he was so drunk that he could barely stand up. They blew the roof off the other bands that played that night. Since then, I've been to two other shows and have been rocked each time. The band gave me a copy of their CD---(Sorry CD-BABY) the second time that I saw them and I have to say that their live show just has that rawness that the CD doesn't have. It's a really good CD though and I recommend it to anyone that likes punk and oi. My only problem with the band is that they don't play long enough and they don't cover much material that's on the CD. To quote a song from them, I guess "these drunk punks have no shame."

  • Punk rock band that kicks it with that ol' time feeling.

The Strap-Ons have a unique sound, somewhere between 77's styled rock and punk. Their lyricist sounds like Jello but their music dosen't follow the trend of that time. I caught some influences from country to hard-core on their CD. The Strap-Ons sound like some one put all kinds of PUNK music in a blender and put it on puree', yet they have maintain their originality. I think that we're going to see some great things from this band in time to come, if some big label doesn't ruin them first.

  • 77's style's punk rock with throaty vocals and hard guitars
    author: Jonathan Leguer

This band would sound good on a rock n roll movie soundtrack. Their lyrics are funny yet serious, kind of like Wierd Al meets The New York Dolls. Musically there's nothing ground breaking, but it does have catchy hooks and penetrating bass lines. I will have to admit, this is a great album to skate to!
