notes

This album is dedicated to the memory of our good friend, Jeff "Mayhem" Thompson. The powerful tune, "The Warrior's Salute," is named in his honor. We'd like to thank everyone in the Rogues family for being so supportive through the good times and the bad... without you we are dust. We'd also like to thank all of our friends and family for the way they keep the faith, keep us sane, and keep us coming home. Likewise, meeting and befriending Frank Thompson and all of Mayhem's family has been the brightest part of a dark year. Finally, we'd like to thank Mayhem for showing us that heroes do indeed walk the Earth.

The Rogues would like to thank Al Cofrin, Klaus Weiland, Richard Kean, Jason Evert, Nick LaGrasta, Zack Goodrick, and Steve Ashley for their musical and creative contributions to this album. We would also like to thank Jack Westmoreland for the use of his many percussion instruments, Jeff Jack for the use of the small pipes, and Ken Knezzick for the doumbek. Thanks also to Andy Bradley, Tyson Sheth, and Sugarhill Recording Studios in Houston, TX, as well as Heritage Studios in Burlington, Ontaio.

Jeremy and E.J. would like to thank Mike Cusack, their piping instructor.

Special thanks to Sharon, Lauren, Leisa and Linda for putting up with us while making this album and keeping us sane through all the late hours. And, of course, thanks to Clarence the studio cat for assisting us on his fourth Rogues album.

  • Very Entertaining
    author: Linda

I had the opportunity to see the Rogues live this past Aug at a Ren Fair in Washington State. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and they instantly made a fan of me. When I got home from my trip, I decided to get the CD and have enjoyed it immensely. Thank You Rogues.

  • Excellent and unique!
    author: Darin

One problem I have always had with Celtic music is that you can pick out 10 Celtic groups and the names will change, but the sound remains the same. The Rogues are not 'just another' in the sea of mediocrity- they are very unique and well worth the purchase.

  • Excellent
    author: Mary

I thought the cd was great, the only thing was I was expecting more of a mix of songs that had some lyrics as well. CD baby did a great job getting it to me so quickly.

  • The Rogues are unique and wonderful. Their music is the best!
    author: Dolores Davis, Clarksburg, MD

I've seen the Rogues perform live at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, and they always deliver the best of their unique Celtic sound! You can't sit still listening to their rhythms, and this CD is especially memorable. Just like being there! Huzzah, boys, and keep up the great work!

The CD itself is marvelous! The Rogues really hit the spot with this one, every song is amazing!! I couldn't be happier with my purchase. As for CD Baby, they did everything they were supposed to do. Quick, prompt delivery. Simple, easy purchasing process. I would definitely use the site again. Absolutely FANTASTIC all the way around!!

  • The Rogues score another 5 stars!
    author: Laura Luhn

The Rogues have successfully managed to combine traditional Celtic tunes with new and original tunes that are as unique as each of the Rogues themselves! Some tunes rock you and others relax you - you will want to listen over and over again! Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing you live again at the Maryland Renn Faire in 2007! You rock!

  • The Rogues keep the Pipes and Drums alive & kicking!
    author: Bondlady_66

Since I was recently introduced to "The Rogues" I've found a new appreciation for tradition-with a twist. The Rogues keep the Pipes and Drums alive & kicking. The lively music, and creative arrangements keep you looking forward to the next track. Really enjoyed it.

  • Fan-freakin'-tastic!
    author: Karnalis

This is the best example of the Rogues' music I've heard yet! It's second only to their live performances. "Pressed For Time" simply rocks, "Ronds" and "An Dro" are exotic wonders of the bagpiping world, and "Conception" is simply funktastic! I'd highly recommend this to any fans of Scottish/Celtic/just-plain-cool music!

Each album gets better and better. Keep up the great work!

  • The Rougues stir it up and bring it to a boil!!
    author: Pam H.

If you've never seen them live, this CD will get you in the mood to take the drive out to tap your toes and bounce in your seat! This CD is a wonderful collection of their most recent best!! I was worried that the spirit, energy and enthusiasm from their live play wouldn't convey to a recording......was I wrong!! With a group this talented and diversified, that can come together to play their best, support each other's musical ideas and push each other's abilities to the peak; the music just boils up off the recording and keeps on going over the edge! Beautiful music, beautifully recorded! IF you get a chance to see them live....do it! Then when you get home and play this, the CD will help keep the highland heartbeat going!

  • Great band on stage - love the music!
    author: Camille

I heard many of the songs on this CD when The Rogues came to High Point, NC last month. That inspired me to buy this CD - I bought two copies actually (one for my brother and one for my boyfriend and me). The CD is awesome and has opened my eyes to the uniqueness and beauty of bagpipes mixed with other instruments. Thanks!

  • Interesting, very interesting
    author: Jack Weishahn

As a piper myself I really love the exquisit quality of the playing. The harmony is great and ALL the notes so crisp and clean. Selection I thought was good but not spectacular. I personally would have preferred mor updated pipe classics. One tune in particular had me understanding a little more the middle eastern origins of the bagpipes. Hope you guys record more.

  • Great music, just what celtic genre needs
author: Injection of Life into Celtic Music...look no further

This stuff is great, I'm from Scotland and people over here need to sort their **** out and get modernising. This album is excellent, vibrant, energetic and .... american? • Music that makes ya wanna YEEEEEEHAAWWW!!!
    author: WGWalker

If yall enjoy highland bagpipes, yall will love this album! It's got great energy, and they do an awesome job of composition, especially with mixing in a little rythm and base and other non-traditional instruments- that's what I'm talkin' about, yall!

  • mind-blowing fun
author: Marc Gunn, Celtic MP3s Music Magazine

I love The Rogues. They were the band that taught me if you had pipes and drums, it wasn't just another bagpipe band. It was The Rogues. "RogueTrip" is the latest offering from this Grammy-Nominated Celtic music giant. There are some semi-new faces on this new CD. Randy Wothke is still the mastermind behind the success of The Rogues, playing a variety of percussion with some delicately added keyboards in the mix. Nelson Stewart continues to front the band with this dynamic personality and bodhran playing. Though I didn't realize he could sing until I heard, "When Diana Fell". Jeremy Freeman is the newest face for me, but he is no amateur when it comes to rocking on the pipes. EJ Jones is the newest member of The Rogues, but definitely no stranger to the band. He dominated the Celtic super group Clandestine with his amazing bagpipes and flute playing. I'm thrilled to see him find a new home with The Rogues. He's added bombarde to this mighty group with the Breton tune "An Dro", a remarkable addition to the musical variety that first drew me to this "pipe and drum" band in "5.0". The new CD isn't a change of sound though. It's the solid evolution of a group that continues to grow from the traditional pipe sounds of "Bobby Cuthbertson" to the breathtaking celebration of the Celtic spirit found in their newest arrangement of "Bonny Portmore". I look forward to seeing the new incarnation perform live. After hearing the lead track off the album "Pressed for Time", I'm convinced that their live show is just as much mind-blowing fun.

  • Awesome
    author: buyer

A great cd by The Rogues. If you are looking for a good piping cd, this could be it. Greatly enjoy this cd. Cranked it in the parking lot of a brewpub in Nashville, TN and had quite a bit of hateful stares. That must mean the pipes are good.

  • You must own!!!
    author: Denise

This CD is awsome and very pleasureable to listen to. I loved "When Diana fell" With the music and words, love it. Now I own every Rogue Album and the DVD. Love it, love it, love it!!!!

    author: Lisette

Saw The Rogues at the Texas Scottish Festival and immediately bought their cd on site. The cd is fantastic, with catchy grooves, danceable tunes, haunting melodies, powerhouse bagpipes, and brilliant instrumentation. Can't stop playing it--it's so good!

  • The Rogues creative talents soar to new heights!
    author: barbara

LOVE IT! Original tunes from each of The Rogues showcase their incredible talents, and go in new and unexpected directions with amazing results! Plenty of the traditional sounds that we all love as well. This is a must have! Can't stop playing it.
