notes

The Pioneers album features Grammy Award Winning Producer and Songwriter, Ron Magness, and special guest Pioneer, John Entwistle (The Who, The John Entwistle Band).

With help from the rock and roll legend, John Entwistle, these five musicians from America and Britain have succeeded in creating their own unique sound by fusing American Country and British Rock & Roll!

The Pioneers album was produced by John Entwistle and Grammy award winning Producer and Songwriter, Ron Magness.

No stranger to the music business, Ron's group Felis opened for The Who on their world tour back in the sixties, and went on to record four well received albums of their own. Ron has gone on to produce tunes for such rock legends as Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger, with a Grammy Award for his work on FlashDance, and a Grammy Nomination for Jaggers' "Just Another Night". He has worked with The Beatles producer George Martin at Abbey Road Studios and has produced more than 40 records, including film and TV sountracks for Disney and the BBC. Besides his role as The Pioneers Producer, Ron also provided some rhythm guitar and backing vocals on the album.

At the soul of The Pioneers is Lead Singer and Songwriter Roy Michaels.

Roy Michaels, whose diverse career includes touring with the likes of Gerry and The Pacemakers, Peter Noone, The Searchers, Manfred Mann, Billy J. Kramer, and as a cast member of the touring group Beatlemania. Roy's unique vocal ability landed him the starring role portraying "Paul McCartney" in 1984 and has kept him on the road ever since, performing at such prestigious venues as the rainbow room (with Wilson Pickett), The Grand Hyatt (with Billy Joel, Lisa Minelli and Jerry Sienfeld), and Notre Dame (with Jay Leno). Roy's songwriting credits include a late 70's top 20 AM single "Long last lover", released on AVP Records, and more recently two of Roy's songs can be heard covered on Hilltop Records "High Country" Album. One could say that Roy is the heart of The Pioneers, Featuring his Song Writing & Lead Vocal abilities, while skillfully providing Bass Guitar and Piano for the group!

Rounding out the quartet is guitarist Michael "Mick" Wynn, and drummer/percussionist John Delgado.

Hailing from Liverpool England, now living in London, Mick handles the lead guitar work for the group. His unique playing style can be heard on both his own albums as well as many other British and American records, making him a most sought after studio guitarist. When not busy in the studio, Mick is a mainstay on the London, Singapore, and Nashville club scene, recording and performing with various local and national acts.

Providing the driving beat behind The Pioneers is drummer John Delgado. Besides lending his talents to various local artist in New York City studios, John, a schooled musician, has performed worldwide in numerous off-Broadway productions and touring troupes including Annie, The Fantasticks, Gypsy, and Bye Bye Birdie. John currently can be seen performing as "Ringo" in "Beatlemania -Yesterday and Today".

  • A lot of fun

I bought this CD as a Who fan, expecting some reasonably good, unique music featuring John Entwistle. Instead, I got a CD full of intelligent, fun, very enjoyable rock/old-fashioned-pop/country. What a fantastic surprise! Anyone who is a fan of well made, intelligent music will like this CD, even if the country-rock genre isn't to your particular taste. Good music is good music, regardless of style.

JOHN IS THE BEST; this album is excellent.

  • A classic album in the style of Sir Paul McCartney
    author: Jess Rosenberg

This is the album McCartney fans have been awaiting for years, delivered not by Sir Paul but instead by the Pioneers. Every tune is immediately memorable, the songwriting excellent, the musicianship (including a guest appearance by the late great John "the Ox" Entwistle) superlative. An instant pop rock classic.
