The Midnight Flyers
The Midnight Flyers have a style heavily rooted in the blues, ranging from slow to up tempo and rockin’. Their sound hints at George Thorogood, ZZ Top, and Robben Ford. Gritty vocals, attacking guitar riffs, and a solid, rhythmic groove give this three-piece the ability to please any audience.
The members of The Midnight Flyers have come together from a variety of other local bands to create a solid bond with a tight, well crafted sound. Their latest CD, titled “Out of the Blues”, has been getting extensive airplay around the US and around the world and has been featured on a host of internet radio stations. Each track has been extensively road-tested, slowly evolving to the recorded versions found here. Their tight background vocals add a pleasing foundation to the mix.
Band Members
John Freel (The Doctor): Bass guitars, mandolin, acoustic, vocals. John’s gritty whiskey voice, and solid bass lines help form the backbone of the band. Born in Austin Texas, he brings over 15 years of experience playing the bass in local bands. John has also enjoyed the opportunity to sit in with bands in Canada and Europe, as well as various locations in California.
Mark Tuttle (Too Tall): Guitar, vocals. A passionate and intense player, Mark’s smoking tone gives him great versatility with a guitar. Originally a drummer in Bay Area bands, he honed his guitar chops through GIT extension programs. Mark has played in many local bands, winning talent contests, and a “battle of the jammers”. His experience includes over fifteen years of playing clubs, and he has opened for such bands as John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Coco Montoya, and Walter Trout. Mark’s unique solo style has been given positive reviews by Bruce Iglauer of Alligator Records.
Chas Benedict (Thunderhoof) - Drums, percussion, vocals. Coming out of the San Diego music scene, Chas brings a unique style of drumming to the band. His Latin percussion studies and his work with the Merced College jazz band, combine with his rock 'n roll and blues background to provide a distinct flavor to the rhythm. Chas has also taken his craft into the theater providing the beat for local productions at Playhouse Merced and the Merced College Theater program.

This is a must have for the blues music fan! LOVED it! Great blues sound with a little funk to it. You can hear many classic influences in their style. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!! Waiting for new songs =)
All day long
author: Mark HenryI'm into all kinds of music, from baroque to blues, but it's the blues that really do it for me the most. These guys are smooth, earthy, gritty, pulsing, all at the same time. I think they're as good as many of the other more famous blues artists I listen to. I highly recommend the CD.
Solid
author: Noah KepnerThe MNF's have a great sound, great groove, and talent that outplays their small town roots. It's hard to believe that this full sound is coming from a trio. TTT's style is fluid with plenty of energy. Doc Divot's solid bass lines add that groove only found in blues bands. My favorites are the "how, how, how" on Down Low, everything on Virtigo, Too Much Beer, and Highway 99 has special meaning after the endless hours wondering when it was going to end. Blues meets Funk meets one hell of a good time.

I loved the album, it just has the kind of sound you're looking for when you talk about good blues music. Keep it up FLYERS!
Not Bad...For Awesome!
author: Josh KepnerOk, I seriously and honestly enjoyed this CD. It has kind of a roadhouse, good times and beer feel to it, and I think that's what the band had in mind. Down Low, Bartender, and Highway 99 are my favorites on this one. The vocals on Bartender sound like the guy just put his Backwoods cigar down on the edge of the amp and blew gritty smoke all over the mike while he sang it. If you are familiar at all with the California Central Valley, Highway 99 wil make you smile and shake your head at the same time. And the lyrics to I Play the Blues have a clever double meaning. I like the lead guitar's style, kind of a BB king meets Santana thing, but with some originality thrown in. All in all, it's a great driving CD to keep you hummin along and I would recommend buying it.
