notes
The initial evolution of The Jack started in October 2003, when Clark Preston, John Clelland, and Dave Leslie began working on song ideas. These three experienced musicians had played both original songs and covers in various rock bands for many years. Another seasoned player, Gordon Ramsay joined The Jack in May 2004 to complete this exciting new band and the debut self-financed CD was recorded in October of the same year. This release received widespread critical acclaim, launching the band on the live circuit and helping to focus the musical direction of The Jack. Now with the band’s current line up, featuring Stuart Fairley on bass guitar, The Jack have just completed their second self-financed album, Tears Of Perception, recorded at Chamber Studio in Edinburgh. The Jack ooze excellent songwriting talent and draw their wide range of influences from each decade’s essential rock artists:
• Recent and current rock artists such as Audioslave, Porcupine Tree, Alter Bridge, Live, and Gotthard.
• Grunge bands from the 90s such as Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots
• Classic and timeless hard rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Whitesnake.
During The Jack's first 3 years of existence, the following achievements and highlights should be noted:
• Over 40 powerful live performances at venues throughout Scotland including regular monthly gigs for the last two years at the renowned and well respected Edinburgh music venue Whistlebinkies.
• The inclusion of the Foo Fighters song, “This Is A Call” on a forthcoming, globally distributed, Foo Fighters tribute album by Versailles Records to be released in 2007.
• Airplay on the Pulse Rated and Radio Borders radio stations.
• Selected as local support act to open for acclaimed US ‘80s rock outfit Vain at the Cathouse in Glasgow in November 2006.
With an uncompromising willingness and dedication to inform the world about their quality hard rock music, expect to continue to hear more about The Jack in 2007 and beyond.
“fantastic band”, “phenomenal voice” Richard Thorburn, Radio Borders Rock Show.

These guys are going to be BIG!!
author: SimonThis is an album that just lives in your CD player. One of the few albums you can listen to again and again without ever getting bored. I first seen the band live and was blown away by their performance; tight, engaging, electric and duly bought their CD. Right from the first track, the songs hit you. Drowining is a fast paced, driving, anthemic rocker that you can't help but nod your head and tap your foot too (maybe even dust off your old air guitar). Dead on Arrival has more of a dark and sinister feel, with an amazingly uplifiting chorus and a breakdown riff that even Sabbath would be proud of. Title track Tears of Perception is a progressive metal at it's best (just what is that time signature?). It's not all heavy though, Tired and Wasted is a lighter in the air, singalong whilst Forever is a heartwrenching rock ballad. This CD manages to be incredibly diverse, whilst incredibly coherent at the same time, a hurdle for even the best, professional bands. The tracks stand out in their own right, yet the album has a definite 'album' feel to it. Musically, the album is executed with consumate skill and the production help's nurture the band's sound. A particular mention must go to Clark Preston's vocals which makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end (just like they did when I first heard Chris Cornell). Watch out for The Jack throughout the rest of '07 and beyond.

Great Band - where's the video
author: JFantastic.. seen them live a few times, need more. When do we get a video - need to see dummer more AWESOME !!!
Polished competent musicians and songwriters
author: GordonFrom the bouncing pop-rock opening riff of Drowning through the stonking riffs on Dead on Arrival to the power chord finale that is Someone Else this is a seriously polished collection of melodic hard rock. These musicians know their craft and their competence and song writing shines through on this CD. Because all the songs are so good it is hard to pick out a favourite but for me it has to go to Tired and Wasted (the guitar truly sings) - though One By One gives it a run for its money! No song disappoints. Enjoy.
Awesome CD, Awesome band, but it now!!
author: JoeDead on Arrival is a stand out track, but the whole Tears of Perception CD is Rockin! The Jack should be signed, I don't think they'll be unsigned for very long. Great band. Saw them live a few times and they kick ass!!!
