notes
The one rule governing song-writing techniques of this Maryland quintet is to be original and unpredictable. But what can you expect when four ambitious musicians join forces with the naturally graceful voice of hippie girl? The Flying Eyes garner influences from psychedelic legends such as Pink Floyd, The Doors, Cream, and Jimi Hendrix, but also draw inspiration from the likes of Dead Meadow and Radiohead to create a sound that is heavily inspired by the ’60s, yet uniquely their own. By taking elements of psychedelic rock in their own direction, The Flying Eyes reach beyond stereotypes. The group’s unique sound and explosive live performance has proved successful, as they won the prestigious Towson Free to Breathe Battle of the Bands conducted by the John Lennon Sound Bus. This victory gave them the chance to record their first single, “The Rabbit & I”, inside Bus’s famous touring studio. The Flying Eyes have also been featured in the Baltimore Sun on 98 Rock’s ‘Noise in the Basement’. The Flying Eyes's self-recorded, self-produced album, just released at the end of 2006, encompasses their musings about dreams, love, global issues, and the human soul — an eclectic time capsule they created in their own living rooms.
