Teletone Records is proud to announce the release of the latest CD by legendary Philadelphia based rhythm and blues band THE BUICKS. The CD, entitled ‘THE BUICKS’, is the band’s first Teletone release. It features twelve songs, including ten of the original songs that have made the band a household name in the northeast United States.

For over twenty years, the BUICKS have been delivering their truly unique style of rhythm and blues to enthusiastic audiences in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. They have built a steady and loyal following on the strength of their live performances and original song writing. The Philadelphia Inquirer has called them “the best rhythm and blues act in the region”.

Described by 14 year member and rhythm guitarist, Joe Borghi as “Americana”, the BUICKS sound is a mix of blues, Philadelphia soul, funk and rock. Featuring the exceptional vocal talents of lead singer and harmonica player, Guy Stasik, this 6 piece ensemble also boasts a rhythm section born of 5 gold albums. Bassist Ron Bogden has recorded and toured with notables like K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Woody’s Truck Stop, Sam and Dave and the James Montgomery Band to name a few. Drummer Larry Spurrier has played with Hall and Oates and other Philly favorites. Saxophonist, Mike Reinig is a road-tested veteran who has toured with Billy Paul (of Me and Mrs. Jones fame) and others. Lead guitarist Tom Trovas playedwith some of the most extraordinary talentsof 60’s and 70’s, namely withBugsy Maugh of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and he shared the stage with such giants as Janis Joplin and Frank Zappa.

Four of the six members are featured as song-writers on the new release, and there’s a wide range of musical tastes evident on the CD. Whether you’re a blues purist or love the funk, it’s all here for you. One listen and you’ll see why, for over twenty years, the BUICKS have been Philadelphia’s favorite sons.

    Terrific CD. Great combination of songs. As a mobile Disc Jockey, I've been using this CD to open shows as well as using songs from it during the performance. Every song I play I get rave reviews. If you like this CD you have to see them perform the songs LIVE. I'll continue to promote and use the music for my shows and anxiously await the next CD.

    I also saw this band in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge - three times in fact. They were clearly the best band in the room and in my opinion, the best on Beale street. I also bought their cd and listen to it constantly. I admit the cd doesn't live up to their amazing live show but their original songs are fantastic and really well conceived. If you aren't lucky enough to live in the Philadelphia area, buy this cd because these guys are doing something different and it's rockin'!!!

    I saw The Buicks on Beale Street in Memphis and they BLEW ME AWAY!!!! I bought the CD and have been listening to it in my car ever since. I hope I can get to see them again but if I don't the CD works for me. Can't wait for the next one!

    Man, this band don't need no tune up or wash job, they're hittin on all cylinders and layin' down rubber bigtime. This cd is a breath of fresh air.

    Philadelphia-based R&B band, the BUICKS, are about as tight an outfit as you can find in the Northeastern U.S.. Their first full-length album on Delaware-based Teletone Records showcases a band full of soul, swagger, original songs and a democratic appeal. Ten of the album's twelve songs were written by some combination of rhythm guitarist, Joe Borghi; sax player, Mike Reinig; lead guitarist Jay LaBoy; and most of the time lead vocalist and all time harp player, Guy Stasik. Reinig, LaBoy and Stasik all share lead vocals on the album as well. The only covers are a funky version of Ann Peebles' 1973 hit for Hi Records, I Can't Stand the Rain and a fairly straighforward version of, A Good Fool is Hard to Find, a song recorded by Albert Collins on his 1986 Alligator release, Cold Snap. Original song highlights include the fun, foot-stomping groove of The More You Drink (The Better We Sound) and the sexy longing of Fourth of July, where Guy Stasik's voice, Mike Reinig's saxaphone and Jay LaBoy's guitar marry for one moving lover's plea. Another, the ballad, Stayin' In Tonight, where Mike Reinig's saxaphone, a solitary appearance by Glenn Bickel on Hammond B3, and Guy Stasik's voice all meet to stir up a special sound that only comes from the utmost heart and professionalism. The sound of the BUICKS is twenty years of unmistakable chemistry, love of music, playful spontaneity, and all around having a good time. All six members of the band are seasoned players with the unique voices and experience necessary to form an unforgettable band.

    I just got my copy of Living Blues magazine and saw the ad for these guys so I thought I give a listen. First impression upon hearing them was, "very likable stuff". I listened again, and then again and then I bought a cd. This band is different. They are different in a very good way. It's not some guitar slinger trying to wow us over the same old phrasing we've heard since pre-war blues. The Buicks use well thought arrangements in an ensemble approach. The song is more important than the leads and the songs are good. 10 original tunes and I have to say, each one stands on it's own. Great singer (singers actually, 3 appear on this release). All players are excellent in their lead capacity but this band truly shines when they play within that ensemble approach. All in all, a refreshing approach to modern blues and a cd that really does get better with each listen.

    I've seen this band several times in Maryland and they put on a GREAT show everytime!!! I picked up the CD and me and my boyfriend are in love with the song Staying In Tonite. We've made love to it a couple of times and it's our favorite.

    I read these other reviews and decided to listen to the tracks. I have to agree, these guys are different and the only person I kind of think they sound like is Billy Price I guess (and Billy is great). Upbeat original tunes with cool hooks but they really shine on the slow tunes. Singer does have a great voice and like the other reviewer said, excellent sax and guitar leads on the songs. Particularly enjoyed their version of Can't Stand the Rain. Never heard it done like that before, very cool.

    Not familiar with this band as I live in Texas but after surfing around, I stumbled upon them. Excellent cd! I've tried to think of a band they are similar to and I can't. Clearly rooted in the blues, THE BUICKS also adds that touch of Philly rhythm and blues to it. It's unique and the band is a pocket machine. Nice mix they use of sax and harmonica. It's like a pseudo horn section but has a cool sound. Vocals are great, dude can really belt. All lead work is excellent and arrangements are well thought out. Overall, this is one worth having for really any occassion. Best part is it's almost entirely original stuff. Keep up the good work, nice to see there is some great rhythm and blues in the CIty of Brotherly Love.

    This is not a typical blues band's CD. Each song is different yet fit together so well. Nice touch with the ballads also.
