notes
Originally from Wheeling, WV, Terry Griffith now resides and entertains in Pittsburgh, Pa. where he is known for his interpretation of Irish ballads. His rich baritone voice is suited to ballads from the humorous to the emotional and his repertoire is sure to take audiences through the highs and lows that only Irish music can span in an evening.
Terry's CD, For My Grandfathers, is the very best of that repertoire and guaranteed to be one of the favorites in any collection of Irish music lovers. The title song explains why a "Yank" of Irish heritage would become involved in the music and the politics of Ireland. "If my ancestors would have never left Ireland, I would be there singing the same songs."
The album is not only a sample of his vocal and guitar stylings but also contains some excellent musicians that compliment and complete the experience. It's not a party album that you play in the background but one that you truly listen to for the words, the emotion and the message.
His involvement has earned a reputation among Irish activists as a musical spokesman for the Irish-American desire to see Ireland free and at peace with each other and the rest of the world.
Terry's web page www.pittsburghirish.org/griffith contains a performance schedule and other helpful information so that you can experience the music that has thrilled and entertained audiences of all ages for 35 years.
"In listening to the music of Terry Griffith, you will hear the 'soul' and 'spirit' of an Irishman. His strong, rich voice and elequoent guitar playing will help you visualize the scene of the song. Terry's interpretation and delivery of the music is excellent. He writes songs with a lot of 'heart' and his lyrics help you feel his feelings. Terry Griffith is a wonderful ballad singer and his music is a 'MUST' for your Music Library.
"It is always a pleasure to work with Terry on a variety of projects, he is very knowledgeable in Irish History and he has excellent technical skills and can create ideas and implement them to the fullest." - Diane V. Byrnes, Echoes of Erin Radio Program.
