notes

Ten Mile Tide is five-piece independent band from San Francisco that describes their sound as feel-good acoustic rock, foot-stomping folk, and beer-drenched bluegrass. The band was formed in 1999 by twin brothers Jason Munning (lead electric guitar, vocals) and Justin Munning (rhythm acoustic guitar, vocals) along with Justin’s Stanford roomie Steve Kessler (fiddle). Jeff Clemetson (bass), and John Morales (drums) complete the lineup. In January, 2006 TMT was nominated for a Jammy for New Groove of the Year. In April of 2005, Ten Mile Tide was selected as the New Groove of the Month by Jambands.com. In the summer of 2004, Ten Mile Tide was selected as a finalist in Relix magazine's Jamoff Competition.

Ten Mile Tide has shared the stage with other national touring acts such as The Wailers, Dispatch, moe., the Gourds, MOFRO, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Strangefolk, The Clumsy Lovers, Railroad Earth, The Slip, Jerry Joseph, The Samples, Assembly of Dust, Luce, Graham Colton, and Hootie and the Blowfish and has played music festivals such as High Sierra, Wakarusa, Utah Arts, Mt. Helena, Three Rivers, Whole Earth, and Desert Rocks. The band has also received national and international media attention including CNN, the Denver Post, the Contra Costa Times, Canadian Broadcasting Channel, San Francisco Magazine, Stanford Magazine, and independent and college newspapers and radio across the country. With Ten Mile Tide's consent, users of the file-sharing program Kazaa have downloaded more than 10 million Ten Mile Tide songs worldwide. The band's growing Street Team now consists of more than 350 members in 45 U.S. States and 10 countries.

Ten Mile Tide is currently touring on the 2006 release of their self-titled album. For this album, Ten Mile Tide returned to their trusted producer, Jack Gauthier (Dispatch, John Hammond, Duke Robillard) and teamed up with bluegrass heroes and friends Don and Marty Lewis (the sons of Ralph Lewis of Bill Monroe fame) in a serene Rhode Island based studio called Lake West Recording. The 11 original tracks, forged on the road and played live long before they hit the studio, celebrate the band's last two and a half years of constant touring (including over 350 shows). The new album follows the 2003 release "Midnight Is Early" and the 2001 release "Flow".

Some reviews for "Flow":

"The Summer of Love never ended for the amiable, jammy
San Francisco combo Ten Mile Tide. On their latest CD,
'Flow', the six-piece combines Cat Stevens-ish vocals
with a sweet, soaring fiddle, a poppier-than-expected
sensibility and lush production."
--Kimberly Chun, SF Gate

"The signature of TMT is the expert playing, and more
importantly, appropriate playing that allows the
groove, melody and individual musicianship to shine
through. The results are evident...The songs on Flow
alternate between summer festival dance numbers and
beautiful layed back soundscapes."
--Jordan Stewart, MusicalGraffiti.com

"Blazing a trail for neo-folkies in the new
millennium..."
--Heidi Drockelman, Indie-Music.com

  • And Flow It Does

You just don't find too many discs that are this good from start to finish. Great harmonies, and the tasty guitar, violin and keyboard solos leave you wanting more. This is one to keep in the changer month after month.

  • great stuff

This is a great CD. Shades of String Cheese Incident, Jack Johnson, and Dave Matthews. It's rapidly become one of my favorite discs to listen to while working, and makes for great chill-out music. Highly recommended.

  • music to suit most ears, easy listening, upbeat youthful melodies
    author: debbie - uk fan

Since receiving the 'flow' cd I have played it so often that most of my family, friends and neighbours are now singing along to the lyrics too. Ten Mile Tide have produced an album that has both upbeat and youthful melodies that should have the majority wanting to dance in the ailes, but the band have also weaved into the music and lyrics those easy-listening qualities needed for when you just want a lazy day sitting out in the sun; this eclectic style should appeal to most generations. My personal favourite is 'Blue and Sudden', others prefer 'Never Gonna Drink Again'; 'The Other Girl', and 'Facing West'. 'San Fransico' and 'Remember' are also equally as good.

  • i've enjoyed listening to ten mile tide

very good music, i've enjoyed my time listening to it. thank you

  • "Flow" is the CD for summer dancing around in your barefeet with friends
    author: SF Fan

"Flow" won't come out of my CD player. It even tops Ten Mile Tide's first CD, "Washed Out Road". All the songs are sweet, the jams terrific, and the musical talent top-notch. Ten Mile Tide sounds great live, but if you can't make it to a show, dance around your place with "Flow" and you'll have a great time. "San Francisco", "Remember", and "Blue and Sudden" are personal favorites. "Never Gonna Drink Again" showcases Steve Kessler's fiddle talents, and "Disco Bus" is probably the best party-on-a-bus song ever written.
