At first glance, the term “indie-pop” seems an oxymoron, however, the four members of TELOGRAPH miraculously combine the raw, unrestrained energy of indie music with the irresistible hooks and precise arrangements of pop music, while somehow managing to convert fans of both genres into TELOGRAPH zealots.
The origins of TELOGRAPH can be traced back to 2004, when they first began playing shows around the D.C. area. A small, but fiercely loyal fanbase immediately formed and dedicated themselves to spreading the word; and word spread like fire. Local gigs quickly led to touring up and down the east coast, and TELOGRAPH soon found themselves sharing bills with national artists such as O.A.R., Gomez, Jupiter Sunrise, and The Plus Ones.
With the release of their most recent EP, “Little Bits of Plastic,” which was released in January of 2007, TELOGRAPH solidified their status as one of the most unique and memorable new groups to emerge out of the east coast rock scene in years. Influenced by modern-day “brit-pop” as well as other groups such as Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, The Cure, Oasis, Echo and the Bunnymen, Kent, The Verve, Doves, The Stills, and The Secret Machines, “Little Bits” was well received by the media and was described as “Impeccably arranged and confidently played,” by the Washington Post.
Never slowing down creatively, material is already in the works for a follow-up album due out at the end of this year, and the group plans to continue touring as hard as possible to get the word out. TELOGRAPH is simultaneously unique, adventurous, and accessible, and they will easily convince you that “pop” should no longer be a dirty word!
