notes

Tom Taylor is an internationally known guitarist/composer and one of the winners of Musician Magazine's "Best Unsigned Band" contest. His winning entry, a fast fusion tune called "Aubade," appears on the self-produced album, THE CROSSING, and is described as "the hardest tune I ever had to record" by mandolin virtuoso Grisman. When Tom's full orchestral arrangement of "Big Basin Breakdown" (also from THE CROSSING "...an amazing piece"— Christopher Wilkins, conductor of the San Antonio Symphony) received its European premier, it brought down the house at the famed Hercules and Prinzregenten theatres in Munich, Germany. Its catchy blend of jazz, bluegrass and baroque melodies received a 5-minute standing ovation!

  • Tom Taylor - The Crossing

This is a very beautiful and colourful album, heard it on a local radio station's jazz program, and I immediately took to it. The folk and bluegrass element (I feel) are more prominent than the jazz element, it reminds me in part of 70s guitar-heavy Fusion Bands mixed with Jethro Tulls folky music, but is more playful and free. It evokes a very natural athmosphere and sounds like a lively landscape painting. A beautiful record!
