[public announcement from TARTANIC L.L.C on March 19th 2007]
To the Fans of Tartanic:

The ship has sailed, and we’re on our way to the Promised Land: for some that’s Tahiti, others Reno, and for others it’s back on the road to pursue personal endeavours.

Bottom Line: Tartanic has finally come to port at Davie Jones' Locker.

Jack Black once asked, “Is it better to burn out or fade away?” Well, we’ve lit the wick and walked away to watch the fireworks (not like we could ever see them at TRF). Our only hope is that we won’t drown to the raspy noise of a string quartet. If I were playing violin on the Titanic as I watched life boats fade away into the night sea, my last line would not be, “Gentlemen, it’s been a real pleasure.” Instead, I'd probably say, "I call shotgun!"

In all seriousness, Tartanic will not be touring after the close of the Arizona Renaissance Festival. Please come out to Apache Junction to give us your support because it's truly been a joy to entertain you. Also, come and get your Tartanic CDs because they're going like hot cakes and won't be available for much longer (AZRF ends April 1, 2007). They will also be available at CDBaby.com until that date.

Again, we've enjoyed our run for the last five years and we've especially loved meeting all of our adoring fans. In ten years, we'll look back at this period in our lives and think fondly on it.

We Love You,

The Guys of Tartanic

Tartanic marries music from two of the most prominent folk traditions in Western Europe--Scotland and Brittany--and sets it to world drumming. While staying true to our roots in the Highland bagpipe tradition, with the inclusion of traditional competition sets, we add some progressive hits that'll have you dancing in your seats.

The meat of the album, however, is the sampling of Breton dance tunes. A stylized and lazy An Dro set sends us to Brittany, and the lively Ronde and fast-paced Plinn melodies get you moving. It's hard to miss the contribution of the bombard, an ancient instument native to Brittany, in theese sets.

Blending these noted musical traditions in a singular style demands equally innovative percussion. A driving bass from the bodhran complements the unyielding pulses of the doumbek. This combination of multiple styles results in rhythms any dancer is sure to find a groove in, regardless of dancing tradition.

The past is present, new is old. While some keep ancient and modern squarely in their places, to us, this is unthinkable.

Fantastic album. I recently saw them preform live for the first time at the AZRF and I'm deeply saddened to hear that will be the last time. A fond farewell and good luck to all of you.

  • Fantastic Album

I first saw these guys 2 years ago at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. I sas them again last year and just had to get a CD. I bought one of the CDs that they were selling at the Festival, and while it was good, it had a more new-age sound than what they were playing at the Festival. When I found this CD on CD Baby I was estatic and as soon as it was available again, I snatched up a copy for myself. This CD was exactly what I was looking for and truly is the next best thing to seeing these guys live.

  • amazing
    author: Eric Smith

These guys are great. While not all of the members of the original group are still together, I know that Tartanic is still alive and kicking, and still rocking it. Because if it's not Scottish....IT'S CRAP! I have enjoyed their bagpipes and drums at the KC Ren Fest for years, and will hopefully be seeing them again in the fall. Rock on Tartanic.

  • The next best thing.
    author: bbqncigars

This CD is the next best thing to seeing these true master pipers in person. All the other pipers at the Michigan Renfest held Tartanic in awe. The best piping you'll hear. Now if I could only get a copy of 'All Abroad'. bbq...@gmail.com

  • Wow! These guys are incredible: incredibly unique, incredible showmen, and incr
    author: Ayperi Bellydance

The title of Tartanic's album "Unmistakeable" really sums up the album. These guys have an amazing signature sound and show. I highly recommend this album to bellydancers, Middle Eastern music fans, Celtic music fans, and people who are looking for something unique and upbeat.

  • WILL BE MY FAVORITE FOR YEARS, I CAN'T STOP LISTENING

I've seen these guys live a couple of times, incredible show! I love the CD!

  • Great cd, fast shipping from cd baby
    author: kitkat

The album is fantastic! Absolutely adore it and play it a lot! Shipping was fast from CD baby so I didn't even have to wait long before jamming out to the beauty of Tartanic!

  • Almost as good as seeing them in a LIVE show!
    author: Michael

This is probably one of their better CDs. It's fun to listen to, and sometimes I even put it on repeat, because it's over too quickly and I don't want to change discs. I wish I knew how to get a copy of their All Abroad album. Anybody know, drop me a line at mnance@cerritos.edu. Tartanic ROCKS!

  • Awesome
    author: Ada

Love the CD and really enjoyed seeing the group at the AZ Renaissance Festival.

  • Can't sit still
    author: Brenda

Incredible cd! The only thing better is seeing these guys in concert -- but now that they are breaking up --- well, this is amazing. I defy anyone to sit still while they listen to this one. Real bagpipe rock!

  • This cd is fantastic
    author: Melody Dawn

This music is great - so much variety in the tunes - all of them have some sort of twist that make them more than your garden variety bagpipe music, even the ones that are deceptively simple. The songs don't just bleed into each other, they're all distinct and really fun to hear, and hard not to dance to.

  • A Gem
    author: Kirsten Cummins

As others have said, it's a shame they're breaing up. I first saw Tartanic a year ago at the AZ Ren Fest and was spellbound, and not just because I love bagpipes. They are extremely talented and fun guys. I didn't buy any CD's last year because I hadn't the money. Thankfully I had saved enough to buy this, especially now that there won't be any more. My favorite track on this is "A Moroccan 6". It uses such unusual bagpipes and is truly mesmerising.

  • Great fun music
    author: Tim

Too bad Tartanic is breaking up. It was a pleasure to be introduced to their music at the KC RenFaire last year. I just bought Unmistakeable as sort of a tribute to them and their raucous music. Great fun.

  • I love these guys
    author: debra turner, homesick251960@yahoo.com

It's a crying shame that these guys are breaking up. Their music is so different and wonderful. My friend Alice and I saw them at the Texas Rennaissance Festival, and we caught every performance. I wish they would make a DVD of themselves, since they can't be seen live anymore after April 1st. It's a cruel blow. Thank goodness I bought their Unthinkable CD.

  • Too awesome!!!
    author: Cathy Bush

The shows at the AZ RenFest are magnificant! The guys are not only extremely talented but also very funny. It was one of the best shows of the RenFest that we have ever seen. A must see for the whole family. And, fyi, Adrian is a great hugger. lol

  • BADASS!!!
    author: Lisa

This CD is badass! The drums, the piping...all phenomenal on this album! I'm from Houston and wait to follow these guys around at the TX Ren Fest each year.

  • Caught them at the AZ Renn Faire
    author: Alayne

I saw these guys at the Arizona Rennaisance Faire a week ago and bought their CD. I agree with other reviewers in that the CD is great (Dans! is my favorite)- but if you have a chance to see them live you should definately go. If you enjoy bagpipes; or fife and drum style music you should enjoy this CD.

  • piping hot!
    author: Drew

I've seen them live, now I own all three of their albums (All Abroad, Unthinkable, Unmistakeable). The first album is no longer available that I've seen. Compairing the three, I think All Abroad was by far the best. this one was awesome, but the energy doesn't seem quite as high as before. Still my favorite group and I will keep getting their albums!

  • Huzzah for Tartanic!
    author: Tom Pfaff

Great album from a great group. Still love them live, but this album will get me a Tartanic fix for now.

  • Fabulous live and on recording!!
    author: Jennifer Jones

I have seen this band live at the AZ Renaissance Faire! They are a blast and full of vibrance and energy!

  • Bagpiping party for all ages
    author: Kimb

This CD is a whole lotta fun to listen to and full of a variety of piping/drumming songs that will keep you interested for the entire length of the album. I have yet to see these guys live but this CD is enough to make me consider a roadtrip in the near future...

  • Tremendous
    author: Eva

Tartanic's new CD is a good representation of their current sound. The speed and precision of the drumming and piping is very impressive. I often hit "replay" after the CD ends and listen to the whole thing several times in a row without getting tired of it. I saw a father and little boy buy a CD from Tartanic at a faire this year. As they walked away, the father said, "We can take this home and have a dance party!" That's what this music is - bagpipe party music! If you don't think you like bagpipe music, check this out and surprise yourself.

  • Bagged Pipes and Dreamy Drums
    author: bubink

You really need to see these guys LIVE in action. Their harmonies and rythems are unbelievable! But the next best thing is their wonderful new CD... buy it, listen to it, LOVE it...
