notes

After discovering Jazz in her late teens Suzan’s interest in the genre has developed into a passion for performing and re-arranging the standards that she’s grown to love. A late bloomer worth waiting for, it was with the encouragement and support of family and friends along with the help of Ellen Churchill, vocal coach extraordinaire, that Suzan launched her professional singing career at the tender age of 38.

“Creativity is what brings me to Jazz,” says Suzan, “These songs are truly timeless and it’s a pleasurable challenge to arrange them in ways that haven't been done before - or that you hope haven’t. Most of the tracks on this CD are arranged by Suzan with help from pianist Neville Bowman who generously lends his many talents to this project. He also plays flugelhorn on "I’ve grown accustomed to his face".

Though some might think a self produced album is a bit of a gamble Suzan has stacked the deck with award winning musicians from the Okanagan including Bowman - pianist with the Just in Time Trio and vocalist with the Michael Garding Big Band, and Cameron Ward -bassist for Just in Time. Scott Gamble, drummer for The Michael Garding Big Band and Ten2Nine handles the percussion on this CD and Kelowna guitarist Scott Theilmann appears on two tracks illustrating his great versatility by playing electric guitar and electric bass on Queensized Bed. With Patty Gorges co-producing and OMA winning engineer Vytas Sinkevicius, this CD will be a welcome addition to the collection of vocal jazz enthusiasts with discerning ears.

“Great tunes, absolutely sexy package, and such a wonderful feeling to mellow out to your smokey, sultry tones and a single malt scotch, by candlelight!” – Ann Byford

“She has a wonderful voice and she knows what to do with it...Neville and the boys back her up perfectly." Paul Grant, host of CBC Radio One's Hot Air
