Album Notes

'Breaking the Awkward Silence' is the first solo release for journeyman guitarist, singer, songwriter Brad Sweitzer. Here are twelve well-crafted and highly listenable original songs - where the lyrics and vocals are just as important as the chord changes and guitar phrases. Brad showcases his unique style - blending straight forward rock 'n roll with blues, folk, country - and even soul influences. There's a lot of variety on this CD - opening with 'I Don't Really Care' - almost a rockabilly tune. 'Work the Mile' has a "Creedence" feel in the music. 'Bursting with Things to Say' is more acoustic and brooding - reminiscent of REM. 'Holiday for Two' flat out rocks with great lyrics and harmony - like The Eagles. 'Kilroy' is funky and bluesy - Stevie Ray could have done this one. 'I've Had Enough' has a Dire Straits quality. 'The Healing of Time' has a Tom Petty feel. 'It's Only People' has a great classic rock feel - and a tongue in cheek message you can dance to. "The idea for the title came from riding in an elevator", says the San Jose based guitarist. "Could there be a more awkward place? It always strikes me how the silence is deafening in a crowded elevator. The title also has the double meaning of finally 'breaking out of the silence' with the release of this CD." Brad Sweitzer has been playing, writing, and touring with various rock, blues, and soul bands over the last two decades. Local musicians refer to Brad as "the best unsigned songwriter in the Bay Area". For more information regarding Brad's musical background, history, motivation, and next moves. You must not miss this emotional experience
author: Bruce - Indianapolis
Although all music must naturally be derived from past influences and experiences, this CD is not only in it's own genre but will define it. Sure you might be able to hear musical phrasing that is similar to other artists and try to classify this work, (realistically there are only so many chords and progressions) but you would be doing artistry a disservice if you did. If you are tired of bands that scream at you this CD is money well spent that will become priceless as you listen.

Brad is no journeyman in my book !
author: D.H.
A journeyman: a reliable, experienced, competent performer esp. as distinquished from one who is brillant. When a extremely talented musician/songwriter beyound the years of having to prove anything to himself or others sits down to make a recording, this music usually shines. Case in point. And there's no cause in trying to pigionhole the resulting music, other than puting it in the simple category of great. These are well written, insightful, catchy songs that are just right as rain. And when considering the fact that Brad not only wrote, arranged and produced this CD, but did all the vocals and played all the instruments, it's mind blowing. If you don't love this CD you've got moss in your soul. Most highly recommended for anybody who loves great music.
