notes
Connecticut-based Sweetbird is comprised of singer-songwriter Christine Yandell and guitarist-composer Steve Waite. Weaving an eclectic musical tapestry that eludes conventional labels, Sweetbird melds influences from folk, pop, rock and country to produce a unique sound that has an innocence and richness seldom heard today. Christine's songwriting is introspective and her voice has been described as "beautiful," "clear," and "natural." They are a perfect complement to Steve's lyrical songwriting and distinctive fingerpicking guitar style.
Sweetbird released their debut record, "Free Spirit Reflection" during the Summer of 2003 on Broadband Records, an independent Connecticut-based label. The album was recorded and co-produced by Grammy-nominated artist Paul Avgerinos, at Studio Unicorn, in Redding Connecticut. The record includes ten original compositions plus a cover of Nick Drake's inspired song, "From The Morning." Backed by a talented rhythm section, Sweetbird's "Free Spirit Reflection" features the work of pedal steel virtuoso John Widgren, drummer Ron Nihoff, lap steel guitarist Roger Filgate, bassist Paul Avgerinos, and Steve Negri on fiddle. The CD is available for purchase at CDBaby.com and many fine digital distribution outlets (e.g, iTunes).
Sweetbird followed up their debut release with "Soul Fire," a record featuring nine original compositions plus two cover tunes. Soul Fire was released during Spring of 2005 on the Broadband Records label. The record features a horn section that includes trumpeter Don Harris (Tower of Power, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, James Taylor) and saxophonist Joe Meo. The record also features pedal steel guitar virtuoso John Widgren, pianist Nick Bariluk, and drummer Matt Moadel. Soul Fire was co-produced by Paul Avgerinos, who also played bass, cello, and keyboards on the record.

A pure tribute to the art of music and music production
author: Mark LesterFor those interested not only in good music, but in quality music production, this CD is a must. It is refreshing to here songs written from the soul by musicians who clearly place the art of music ahead of ample individual talents. As for Christine Yandell's incredible voice, think Edie Brickel meets a contented Alanis Morissette.
Fine original songs with great vocals backed by superb guitar playing
author: John HudockI've heard Sweetbird perform live on at least three occasions and have both of their CDs. Christine as a crystal clear, beautifully toned voice. Backed by Steve's superb guitar playing on a large variety of guitars, from his custom 12-string to a range of acoustic and electric guitars, make for an extremely satisfying musical experience. This CD contains all original songs (at their live shows they also do some wonderful covers and I wish Steve would record their wonderful versions of Etta James' At Last and Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time). Their own songs are no disappointment though, with lovely and memorable melodies combined with lyrics that cover the full spectrum from pathos to humor, simple and sweet to sophisticated. I highly recommend this CD.
Incredible lyrics and sound, voice of an Angel will touch your heart.
author: Karen ScintoSweetbird has perfected the art of song with this CD. Each song touches your inner-spirit and the melody and lyrics enhance your mood, from the energy and passion you feel in Soul Fire to driving with the windows down smiling to Road to Ashland. Christine's angelic voice reaches a part of your ear that is virgin to the specific chime. Steve's guitar playing is smooth and refreshing, combined with the other instruments and production the entire CD masters a sound that is unique and all around amazing!
Mesmerizing!
author: Sharon Anderson-MorrisBeautifully melodic and spiritually awakening sound and song to live by - a "must have" in any music lover's collection!
Another step forward in Sweetbird's evolution.
author: Tony ConniffAnother step forward in Sweetbird's evolution. With smooth production, it accomplishes its goal - listeners looking for healing, soothing songs with elegant vocals and instrumental work won't be disappointed. The vocals, guitars and bass work are particularly notable.
Soul Fire rivals Free Spirit Reflection
author: Joe MasulliAfter a stunning first release (Free Spirit Refection) many bands pale in comparison on their next effort- this most certainly is not the case with Sweetbird ! The addition of a horn section and full band arrangements takes their music that much farther. Having said that, my personal favorites are simply Christine's vocals and Steve's guitar. The hauntingly, beautiful October's Child stopped me in my tracks at first listen and Forever , one of the most beautiful , yet so very sad love songs ever. Sweetbird's music does not fit into neat little boxes and defies categorization- what I can say is that Sweetbird's music does for me , spiritually , what music is supposed to do- Please buy this cd-you will not be disappointed!
Beautiful songs, intelligent lyrics and the voice of an Angel.
author: Eugene FoleyIf you are a fan of singer/songwriter (AAA) music, this is a MUST HAVE CD. The lyrics, melodies, musicianship, production and lead vocals are outstanding. Steve & Christine write songs from the heart. You can feel the positive vibes the second the CD begins to play. And her voice.... wow, it's one of the most beautiful and pure you will ever hear. BUY THIS RECORD!

Major step forward for Sweetbird. Songs, singing, playing, recording, and produc
author: Hunt TaylorSweetbird is really coming into their own with this effort. Every aspect of the bands effort delivers on this, second album. From the writing to Christine Yandell's singing, Steve Waite's playing and Paul Avgerinos's production. The horn parts rock and the pedal steel is a beautiful complement. Sweetbird hits its stride with this CD.
Thoughtful lyrics, great listening
