notes
this new album by Susan & the surftones leans more towards surf than garage, much cleaner than ever but still great songs that have mean guitar tones to spare!

author: M.L. DowneyWest 30 kicks off the instrumental mix of surf guitar and mysterio organ that dominates Susan and the Surftones’ Wrap-around. Led by Susan Yasinski’s guitar, the Surftones take a leisurely stroll through 10 originals and four covers. While lacking the gritty fireworks of the group’s All the Beat ... All the Best Live, Wrap-around rewardingly details the quieter, more thoughtful places in surf music. Lonely Crimson Sea, Sand Dreamer and Blue’s Theme feature the classic lineup of keyboards, guitar and drums. Wrap-around is not without punch though – in addition to the twangy West 30, Yaskinski’s Blondes in Cars roars along very nicely. Great covers of More (tasty guitar work), Ghost Riders in the Sky and a thumping version of the Clash’s Should I Stay or Should I Go keep things from getting too sedate.
