notes
Susan Haight's “STARS BY DAY” is an exquisite collection of genre-spanning personal songs. The CD stands out for its clear, tender vocals, melodic lines and sensitive, sometimes haunting lyrics. Featured on “STARS BY DAY” is an impressive list of accomplished musicians; Charlie Harrison on keyboards, Doug Webb on Sax, Joe Cacavo and Larry Koonse on Guitar, and Gary Popenoe on harmonica.
Among this poetic blend of soft jazz, country and folk/pop songs is the single “Wish You Were Here,” which garnered a lyric-writing award from the American Songwriter Magazine. Another song, “Forever in Me,” was written by Haight when her grandmother was dying and is particularly intimate and moving. “Singing and writing songs is healing, but it’s also terrifying,” Haight admitted. “There’s something very intimate and exposing about it.” The haunting and metaphoric song “Low Flying Bird” was both romantically and spiritually inspired. “It comes from that longing of knowing what could be yet recognizing what is… There’s a kind of beautiful sadness.”
The song “Stay Close, Angels” was written after years of working in Los Angeles in television and film development and production. “I’d spent so much time and blood working on other people’s projects, seeing their creative visions come to life. I finally just felt I’d earned the right to do something myself,” Haight commented. The result is “STARS BY DAY,” an eclectic and elegant anthology which has been enthusiastically received by a diverse demographic. Haight’s vocals have been described as beautiful, clear, sensitive and haunting. “Having these truly talented musicians play on this CD was amazing. I’m so grateful.” When asked where the title originated, Haight replied, "I've always appreciated the beautiful and unseen. Like stars. They're always there, but we can't always see them."
Ms. Haight has performed at various venues throughout the Los Angeles area and continues to write thoughtful and unique songs.

sensitive and thoughtful
author: PaulaSusan Haight's CD, Stars by Day, offers a constellation of songs with glints of remembrance, loss, longing, survival and triumph. Rich with the images of a clearing fog, a low flying bird, shadows, ashes, trees bending in the wind, the clock on the wall - Susan's songs speak of life's rugged roads but also of their safe passage. There is a wisdom and clarity in Susan's tender vocal performances. Her insights are carried on her curving melodies and are highlighted by each sensitive musical arrangement. With each listening there are deeper levels to discover and there is more and more to meet the ear.

Stars by Day is a great album! It has a great mix of soft jazz, county, and pop songs on it. Some are quite emotional and all of the lyrics are worth listening to over and over again. My favorites are Very Innocent Girl, Stay Close Angels, and Forever In Me. Check it out!!!!!
