notes
The Sursiks have done it again! With the release of their 2nd cd: "Lydia Grace", they have sought to create an alternative to the tepid, yet irritating "kidz" music so prevalent in America today. (It seems that on CDs of such music, "kidz" are recorded singing "hitz" written FOR them by "adultz". The children, quite contrary to their natural curiosity and creativity, dutifully perform songs that they do not understand or necessarily enjoy.)
"Lydia Grace" is a collection of 13 songs actually written and sung by a 3-year-old girl. She was not told what to sing, or even what to sing about. The subjects of her "songs" and monologues often relate to the picture she was drawing or the toy she was playing with at the time. Having not yet been routinely exposed to pop culture, her imagination conjured up lyrics quite different from those of any adult.
The Sursiks began with the raw, un-edited recordings of Lydia and constructed musical arrangements around them, using HER melodies and rhythms as the foundation of the music. The result is a cd of songs that embody the world-view and the musical sense of a 3-year-old (in a good way).
"Lydia Grace" is the perfect cd for children that want to hear it like it is from one of their own.
Furthermore, recent clinical studies have proven that The Sursik's "Lydia Grace" eliminates 95% of the headaches, itching and existential angst typically experienced by parents exposed to children's music for long periods of time.
WARNING: The Sursik's debut cd "I didn't know i was singing vol. 1" is NOT appropriate for children. It is a collection of real answering machine messages (many of them from drunken or angry adults who make extensive use of "bad words"). The messages were set to music using the same method employed on "Lydia Grace".
Get "I didn't know i was singing" for YOURSELF instead.
Thank You,
The Sursiks

Kids' music done RIGHT!
author: Brad GlandenThis is a fantastic album. The words and melodies just happen to be composed by a 3-year-old girl--Lydia Grace, of course--who is backed by older, but equally imaginative, musicians who call themselves The Sursiks. The songs are easy enough for kids to sing along to (naturally, since a youngster made them up), while the music is adventurous and diverse enough to provide fascination for even the most musically educated adults. That means that anyone can enjoy this album, not just "family people." There really isn't anything else out there like LYDIA GRACE, unless you count I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS SINGING, The Sursiks' less child-friendly, albeit hilarious and brilliant, debut. (How many bands can follow up a recording containing profanity-laden, drunken tirades with a perfectly innocent album directed at kids? Not many, but The Sursiks have the talent and sense of humor to pull it off.) Sneak LYDIA GRACE in with the singalong CDs in the family car, and everyone will be glad you did. Your child might even learn to identify an octatonic scale.
Unique and entertaining
author: John TabaccoThis is a unique and entertaining CD. The playing is brilliant and creativity oozes out of every track. Great work.
