notes

Summer Lee was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. Spending most of her childhood riding horses in the mountains and playing country music with her family. She found her wings and began writing and performing her own music in high school. Summer longed to perform and touch hearts, but found her shyness to be a stumbling block. Slowly through the years she replaced that shyness with a gratitude for being given the gift of music, and has chosen to serve humanity through her songs.

The CD "PEACE BEGINS WITH ME" was inspired by the title cut, that Summer wrote 3 days BEFORE the 9-11 tragedy. She told her husband Wes, that she had never felt such anxiety for writing a song before. 3 days later she understood why. But from this, the CD was created to raise money for 3 charities. An Animal welfare Org., a Women's safe house shelter and a Children's Org.

This CD was released throughout Europe this past Spring. She received tremdous airplay, and still is today. She went to #29 in the United Kingdom on the Indie Charts with the single PEACE BEGINS WITH ME.

Often Summer is asked whethor she gets the words or the music first...in wirting her songs. Summer generally writes both the words and music at the same time.

Before becoming Summer Lee, she was known in the Northwest as Laurie Haynes. She recorded several projects under that name and toured as an opening act for several Country stars.

In '97 she married Wes Lewis. Soon she found that there was already a Laurie Lewis on a Major label doing bluegrass.
With this new gentle style of thought provoking soul-stirring music, Laurie decided to change her name. She chose to take her real "birthdate" name. Born June 21st, the first day of Summer and a full moon and Father's day the year she was born, Summer Lee came forth.

Being an avid gardener and farmer, Summer, her husband Wes and little daughter Callie spend their busy days on an old 1910 farm, complete with miniature donkeys, ducks, horses, cows and chickens! A wonderful place to write songs! They live near Portland, Or. just over the bridge into Washington state.

Summer's vision is to raise money with her music, to aid charities and continue to perform and share the vision of hope, peace and love.

I LOVE the CD! You want feed back? How about goose bumps? When almost every song started, I would get goose bumps all the way up into my hair! It's just beautiful! The messages are wonderful.....Peace Begins With Me and Courageous Hearts are wonderfully healing after the 9-11 attack. I'd like another CD. When is the next one?

  • "Peace Begins With Me" gentles my heart.

The title cut is my favorite. A chant, it builds and builds with voices and harmonies, singing the hope and assurance that one day we all will be in peace. It is a marvelous song for this time in our country's life. And, it helps us remember that we cannot expect peace unless we are willing to start with it in our own lives.
