notes
In a world of look, sound and speak-a-likes, Sucka Brown bucks the musical trend like a mechanical bull on speed, coupling tracks packed with soulful bounce and pop sensibility with a high energy live show that always gets the crowd moving and shaking. Formed in the latter days of 2003 and hell bent on planting their sound seeds in as many ears as possible, Sucka Brown hit the road playing over 250 club and college shows in their two years together. Along the way, they’ve shared the stage with such notable acts as: Reel Big Fish, American Hi-FI, Razel, Ryan Cabrera, Zox, State Radio, Averi, Paranoid Social Club, Aberdeen City, Gruvis Malt, The Kin, Planeside, LP, Ordinary K and many more. With a very radio friendly sound, they’ve received a warm welcome on local and college stations like WBCN, WMFO, WBRS, WHEB and WXPL. In the fall of 2005, Sucka Brown released their first full-length album entitles Extra Medium which charted in CMJ's top 200 and the top 100 of RIYL.com. 2006 followed with a nomination for a Boston Music Award. Now, after signing with Roho Records, the band is poised to reach even more people with their new release, What Elephant?. Don’t miss out on Sucka Brown, because if you do, you’ll be the only Sucka around.

Sucka Brown Are Sucka Free, No Noodling Or Oodling Whatsoever
author: John Book, Music For AmericaSucka Brown are a band from the Boston area that mix up rock with a few hints of funk, and fortunately they're proficient in both. Imagine Maroon 5 with a singer that isn't whiny, and add that with a bit of Brad, the hard groove of Lenny Kravitz (pre-5), a pinch of King's X and a pop sensibility, and you have the recipe for a band who could make it to the top, if given the right opportunities. There are a few songs that might remind people of The Black Crowes, but that's in terms of musicality, not so much a love for the blues. Because of the "funk" quota, one might think Sucka Brown might be nothing more than a bunch of slaphappy white guys trying to "give it up for the cause", but that isn't it. There's more of a groove in their music, something within their playing which shows confidence and an ability to either play by the rules, or play on the one. Their What Elephant? (Roho) album is only 10 songs strong, but it's short and to the point, no noodling or oodling whatsoever.
