notes

The long awaited follow up CD to the String Dusters highly acclaimed "Primitive Soul" debut CD.

This new CD “Thursday Night at Marilyn’s” is the culmination of some great jams over the years. The String Dusters have gathered some of Delmarva's best musicians and singers for a musical journey that covers old time fiddle and hammered dulcimer tunes to Celtic inspired melodies and classic mountain style gospel songs.

Marilyn Long infuses her passion for old time fiddle tunes with every note she plays on the hammered dulcimer.

Mickey Justice brings his passion for Celtic music and poured it into the String Dusters traditional mountain style and a new flame was born! When Mickey plays harmony on his mandolin to Marilyn's hammered dulcimer, the music that is produced is breathtaking!

Steve Quillen, the best fiddle player on the whole Peninsula, joins the String Dusters on this CD after years of jamming and filling in on show dates with them. Steve tears it up on this CD!!!

Frank Nanna infuses his bluegrass roots into the mix with his guitar and banjo playing. Frank also joins in on all the harmony vocals.

The mother and daughter duo of Dottie and Sarah Beth Meadows brings the kind of harmony that only blood can create! The String Dusters heard them sing at the Berlin Fiddler's Convention and fell in love with their blend and vocal abilities. Sarah Beth can wail !!!!

Annie Williams, a regular at the Thursday night jams, brings authentic West Virginia style old time fiddle to the CD. Annie's roots run deep with every note she plays.

Larry Lynch, a superlative upright bass player with the timing of a Rolex, holds the bottom together on this foot stomping, toe tapping, heart thumping CD.

Frank Nanna, Steve Quillen and Larry Lynch played together six nights a week in Ocean City's premier country band "The Star Mountain Music Company" between 1992 and 1995.

Frank, Marilyn and Mickey: I thought I would drop a line to let you know that I have truly enjoyed your "Thursday Night at Marilyn's" CD - I have nearly worn it out! It was a pleasure to meet you at the Olde Princess Anne Days event. Keep cranking out the traditional and Celtic music! Margie R. Newnom PLACE: Harrington DE Bill and I hired the String Dusters for our wedding reception in September. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their music - especially me! So, I am giving each of my sisters the new CD for Christmas and buying Primitive Soul for myself. The String Dusters really made our wedding day extra special -- and they are really nice people too. Thanks, folks!! Margie R. Newnom

I have been playing the CD everyday since I received it. Love the songs and the harmony. It really sounds wonderful. Keep up the great work.

  • This one's a keeper.

Marilyn, Last night I worked until 3AM on a job that I am trying to finish up that has taken months. But yesterday afternoon I just had to stop work and pop your new CD into the stereo. The opening track, the old favorite Lord of the Dance, was a delight with its instrumental opening and unusual switch to acapella harmonies. That cut alone would have made the purchase of the CD worthwhile, but hold on...you guys were just getting started! The liveliness of Cherokee Shuffle and Red Wing made it hard to decide which was more fun and the tender sounds of many others made me wish I was born in the mountains instead of Salem. Marilyn, keep up the great work--this one's a keeper. Thanks, David Stockman JackRabbit Pix Lake Zurich, IL

  • I will listen to it endlessly.

I have just finished listening to the new CD "Thursday Night at Marilyn's". I have to tell you that I am completely blown away. Oh my God! It's awsome! I love the variety of music! Lake on the Mountain is a great one for Marilyn. And Mickey's vocal on Wild Mountain Thyme made me cry. The harmony of Sarah and Dottie on Children Go Where I Send Thee is hard to beat. Frank, you are just great on the banjo on the Old Spinning Wheel. I love to hear banjo. Red Wing is an all time favorite of mine. It seems to be perfect for the hammered dulcimer. But you on Banjo just made it even better. Margarets Waltz is just beautiful. More tears. I can't tell you how much I enjoy this music. It makes me feel so good. I will listen to it endlessly. Your music takes me to a special place. Connie Corliss - Ohio Old Time Music Society
