notes

An acoustic-based, psychedelic pop duo, StrangeCloud was formed in 1998 by musicians with considerable experience in other bands. The partnership of Fred Wheeler and Jeff Anderson has performed relentlessly since the fall of 1999 both as an acoustic duo, and at times bringing in other musicians to spice up live performances. In recognition of their vocal harmonies, StrangeCloud was invited as one of the special artists to perform at Bob Dylan's 60th Birthday Party Celebration in Minneapolis in May, 2001. StrangeCloud released 2 highly successful indie CDs in 1999 ("Formation" and "Acousticity"). While those earlier projects focused on the acoustic, alt country sound, the newer material on "Psychedelectric Orange" is more pop and rock oriented. Think Beatles, Pink Floyd, Traveling Wilburys, Beach Boys, Bee Gees, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, America, Wilco, and Simon & Garfunkel all brought together in a 21st century mode, shaken and not stirred. These upbeat songs have a heavy emphasis on pop melody ala Lennon/McCartney, feature layered 3 and 4-part harmony, and an abundance of sonic pleasure. Included on "Psychedelectric Orange" are special licensed versions of the Beatles classic "Things We Said Today," and Pink Floyd's early opus "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun."

  • Think of the 70's,tripping & chilling,absolute bliss........
    author: Sharon O'Reilly (wildwitchy)

I'd never heard of strangecloud before but when I got my c.d (p.orange) I was extreamly impressed! The songs remind me of the 70's music....Pyscadelia,swirly purple wallpaper, tie dye clothes (that I wear!) and all the music that goes with that era.It was quite a blast from the past with a new edge to it.The 2 gentlemen, fred and jeff have great voices. They take me quite far away.As said by other reviewers it has got the essence of the late beatles, yes, woodstock type bands.Excellent...just go out and buy it why dont you!

This is a great CD. Fred and Jeff have put together a fine collection of music on this disc. It's great to hear music like this recorded and produce by the artist without the intrusion of the salesminded so-called "music industry". Anything else I could add would simply be an echo of the other reviews this disc has received. GREAT JOB GUYS!!! THIS IS A MUST HAVE CD!!!

  • You won't be sorry

To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. I've been a musician for over 35 years and have given this CD several critical listenings. Each time, I latched onto more discoveries. With Strangecloud, you get "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" and more. It comes through on this CD that these gentlemen know what they're doing and they do it very, very well.

  • They did it again!

I have to ditto the rest of the comments so far on this CD. What a great Thematic collection of tunes reminiscent of Pink Floyd, The Band, and anything in between. I love it guys, keep more coming.

It's been a long time comming, but 'Strangecloud' makes a triumphant return with their new CD "Psychedelectric Orange". With tracks like "Hello" & "Set the controls for the heart of the Sun", they take you through a broad musical spectrum, that leaves your ears begging for more.. Quinch your musical thirst with "Psychedelectric Orange"...

Fred Wheeler and Jeff Anderson manage to blend a hearty helping of influences into each track on this long-awaited CD and deliver a feast of sounds, original and interpretive. StrangeCloud has become recognized as a masterful and popular independent act over the last decade. This collection of songs continues the StrangeCloud standard with slick, professional, manicured renditions of new songs, as well as a cover of a great, off-the-beaten-track tune by The Beatles and a Pink Floyd studio masterpiece. StrangeCloud’s version of psychedelic is fearless, open, honest and entertaining.

A very interesting and eclectic combination of songs. Music that isnt tainted by an industry, but is developed by the artists themselves. Even a couple Pink Floyd covers which I dare say are better than the originals. The lush soundscapes are well thought out and very entertaining. Each song goes into it's own direction and are well executed. I am enjoying this CD, you will too!
