notes
Straight Furrow started life in 1990. Their hallmark sound is the atmospheric interpretation of traditional melodies and is derived from a unique blend of acoustic and electric instruments. Whether your feet are forced into a jig by the "rumpty-tump" of the dance tunes or you feel the hairs on your neck rise to the lilt of the slow airs, you cannot fail to respond to Straight Furrow.
Free Time is their latest recording and features original material along with traditional.
What they said about Straight Furrow's first CD "get your breath back":
"I daresay this is the most astounding Celtic music I have ever heard on mp3.com, and it is surely among the best that I've heard anywhere else as well. Musically sound and well crafted." - Gods of Music
"Musically, this is a very strong recording, with precise instrumentation and a lovely selection of tunes. A mix of haunting airs and delicate melodies." - Green Man reviews
"This scholarly clan plays a tune with precision and grace. Their understatement is enviable. The tone achieved by the wind player is top notch." - Gods of Music
"The great musicianship is apparent even for those not well-versed in this genre - this music will either make you pour a pint of stout or allow you to kick back, or even dance it up at a wedding." - GidaFolk Radio.
"Bright Celtic touches with a smooth and mellow flute. If you liked some of the music from Mike Oldfield's Voyager, then the music on Straight Furrow's album is for you!" - Redheat selections

Free Time
author: Leigh GustersonAbsolutely love it!!! reinspires me about the power of simple, accoustic music. Got it for Weeting Fair, but Love all the tunes, each very different. Thank you!
Masterful stuff. Plough away, there!
author: Pay The ReckoningFree Time finds the Furrow lads and lasses in creative mode - a fair whack of the tunes and songs being original compositions which hold their own against some stirring traditional material. As far as Free Time is concerned, the listener is recommended to pay close heed to Eade's original tunes. An artist with a very particular voice, his pieces combine soul and grace and stand up well in the company of tunes such as "Si Beag, Si Mor" and an incendiary polka set "Dennis Away!", which hinges on the Furrow's versions of "Dennis Murphy's" and "John Ryan's". Highlander Radio highly recommends Straight Furrow.
author: Highlander RadioIn July of 2002 we got hooked on this groups Celtic music and dance melodies. In fact, we still have their music playing on the broadcast! Now they have followed-up with another album called "Free Time." which proves to be just as good, if not better than the first album! Highlander Radio highly recommends Straight Furrow. They have a great sound of music, instruments and vocals.
