ABOUT THE CD:
Stevie Hawkins & Georgia Jam features some of the South's finest guitarists, Spencer Kirkpatrick (Hydra); Barry Richman (Col. Bruce Hampton, Wet Willie); Wayne "Bear" Sauls (Eric Quincy Tate, Buddy Miles); Reddog; Kerry Creasy (Dr. Hector & The Groove Injectors, Tinsley Ellis, Elvin Bishop) on bass guitar; Justin Hawkins (Buddy Miles, Little Brother) on the second drum set and percussion; Rich Iannucci (Dianne Durrette, Freak The Jones) on Hammond B-3; and Stevie Hawkins who has shared the stage with (Leon Russell, Gregg Allman, Albert King) performing on drums and vocals throughout.
"Georgia Jam", the band's recently released CD, is a collection of rowdy and raw 'as is' live recordings, capturing the essence and spontaneity of Southern Rock and Classic Rock taken from various recent live performances. Opening with "Rebels Yell" this CD lets you know from the 'git go' that Southern Rock is alive and kickin' and they're loud and they're proud of it. Moving on into some raucous jams, "Georgia Jam" the title cut, and "Locomotive 22", it's all aboard the freedom train with Hawkins, Creasy and Spencer Kirkpatrick on a ride of spontaneity and just plain ol' fashioned down home rowdy rockin' fun. With EQT guitarist Wayne "Bear" Sauls taking the stage for the (on the spot) instrumental jams "Dancing Bear" and "Grits and Gravy" (collectors take note, Bear Sauls plays bass on "Big Boss Man" and "Going Down") and Reddog's slide guitar work on "Honest Man," serves us up that deep southern groove.
Transcending from Southern Rock into Classic Rock with guitarist Barry Richman, the influences on his musical evolution of Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower can be felt on "No Bridges", and Mahogany Rush on "Dragon Slayer" with a little Zappa thrown in for good measure on "The Dazed And Confused".
Stevie Hawkins showcases the full range of his vocal and drumming prowess, taking us with him as he traverses the landscape of the South from the amphitheatres of the foothills, "Going Down" to the acoustic Delta Blues, "CC Rider" and back to the big city rock arena, "No Bridges".
Serving us up their own brand of dessert a "Tribute to James Brown" with live horn section and the nod to Ray on "Everything Is Subject To Change" close out this collection with Hawkins leaving us much as they did.....well fed and completely "satisfied"!
BAND BIOS:
Stevie Hawkins & Georgia Jam is a powerhouse group of musicians with a long history in Southern music and are well known throughout the Southeast and beyond. This group of individuals capture the true essence of Southern Rock, Blues and Classic Rock in their live performances. The group is exciting, creative and move their audiences through raw emotion. These musicians are known for their intense raucous jams. When this group hits the stage, it's all aboard the freedom train on a ride of spontaneity and just plain ol' fashioned down home rowdy rockin' fun.
The band is fronted by drummer, vocalist, songwriter, producer and engineer Stevie Hawkins, a veteran of the stage and the studio. He has shared the stage with legends, Leon Russell, Johnny Winter, Gregg Allman, John Lee Hooker, Albert King and Rufus Thomas to name a few. His vocal style is born in Blues/Rock, smoky and soulful. His style of drumming is unique to himself, influenced by many of the rock, funk, soul and jazz drumming greats. Stevie also heads Atlanta Music Group, a diversified record label and music publishing company, working with songwriters, artists and alliances from around the globe.
Guitarist and Atlanta native, Spencer Kirkpatrick brings years of stage and studio experience to the group, and an all around electrifying vibe. From being an opening act in the 60's for "The Beatles" at Fulton County Stadium, Atlanta, GA with his band "Atlanta Vibrations," to recording on the Capricorn label in the seventies with the Southern group "Hydra," to remaining active on stage and in the studio today, Spencer is a force within himself and a highly respected musician. Some of the groups Spencer has toured with are ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels Band, Rush and Trapeze.
As lead guitarist for the Eric Quincy Tate band, Wayne "Bear" Sauls, he has rode the wave of some of the greatest years of rock and roll and continues to rock and roll, wowing his audiences. Wayne's guitar style is best describes as "concert arena blues-rock" and all his own. Bear has had the opportunity to share the stage with such greats as the Allman Brothers, Charlie Daniels, Warren Haynes-Gov't Mule, Buddy Miles and the Nighthawks. Wayne also has his own CD titled "Emotional," and is released on Atlanta Music Group's "Alternative*Urban" label.
Bassist and vocalist Kerry Creasy has played a wide variety of music on the big stage with Albert King, Son Seals, Elvin Bishop, Dr. Hector & The Groove Injectors. Kerry says he likes it all, but the blues is his heart and soul. He plays 4, 5, and 6 string fretted and fretless bass, and upright bass. His professional equipment and impressive musical background sets the stage for a truly rocking live performance!
Justin Hawkins plays the second drum set, backing vocals & percussion. Justin is the youngest member of the band and provides a vital spark and edge to the overall energy and spontaneity of the band. His counter-polyrhythms played against Stevie's fuse together, creating a massive driving drum sound and feel describe by some as "locomotive." Justin has performed with (Buddy Miles, Sean Costello, Eddy Tigner, Wayne Sauls & Bear Facts and Little Brother).
Rich Iannucci is on keys and Hammond B-3 organ rounding out this dynamic group. Rich is one of the most sought after organists in the Southeast. His stage and studio credits are too long to list. Rich doesn't emulate anyone, he is "Rich" on the Hammond. Rich is much the showman as he is the player. From the growl of his organ leslie cabinet to him standing on his organ, the crowd is certain to be moved musically and entertained visually. Rich one of a kind and an all time great.
To sum it all in one sentence, Stevie Hawkins & Georgia Jam are professional musicians that are focused on their music and entertaining their audience.

author: Jaroslav JakubovicI am a professional musician myself so I will not be writing a review of this great album Georgia Jam, I will only write a few words of thank you to Steven Hawkins and his fantastic, best of the best musicians friends, for putting together an album that keeps alive the best of American music. Every note on this CD played by all these unbelivable artists, comes from the heart. You can feel it here, that these guys had a great time playing together on this album. I am honored and humbled to write about Georgia Jam.
The very finest pickers, doing it up right. One of the hottest Cds of the year.
author: GRITZ MagazineFormer Leon Russell drummer Steve Hawkins kicks up some serious, live, Southern Rock jam with a little help from his friends, Spencer Kirkpatrick (Hydra), Barry Richman (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels), Reddog (Jimmy Thackery), and Wayne “Bear” Sauls (Eric Quincy Tate), accompanied by bassist Kerry Creasy (Jerry Garcia). The CD opens with “Rebels Yell,” the latest shout–out to the great Southern Rockers of old, and there’s even a Gov’t Mule reference. Cool. “Locomotive 22” proves to be an early set promise of more great things to come, with Kirkpatrick leading the jam into some “Allmans meets Ten Years After” territory. Rich Iannucci wails on the B-3. Excellent. Bear Sauls picks up the guitar on “Dancing Bear,” and brother does he ever smoke. Bear has always been one of the best, and his band Eric Quincy Tate was one of the finest bands to ever come out of the beautiful South. Bear continues to rip it up on (our favorite) “Grits and Gravy.” Other outstanding tracks include “The Dazed and Confused,” featuring Barry Richman; “Honest Man” featuring Jeff “Reddog” Higgins, and a most excellent all-star tribute to James Brown – talk about your funk and rock? This is the epitome. Georgia Jam is a red hot, still smoldering set that embodies everything good about Southern Rock and Soul. The very finest pickers, doing it up right. One of the hottest Cds of the year. -Michael Buffalo Smith
