(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Massive classic power metal with an early Fates Warning feel. Special double cd limited edition (1500 copies only) "beware" is finally delievered into the hands of massacre records. it has turned out to be a very melodic, very catchy and very "raw" alb

notes

An excellent pure power metal band, Steel Prophet toiled in semi-obscurity for several years before the release Dark Hallucinations in 1999, which won the band critical acclaim. The band mixes an early Fates Warninginfluence with a more aggressive power metal base to good effect. Vocalist Rick Mythsiasin frequently reminds one of Bruce Dickinson (occasionally frighteningly so) while at other times he sounds a bit like John Cyriis of Agent Steel. The succeeding albums since Hallucinations follow a similar path, both in style and in quality of music. Steel Prophet still hasn't reached the level of fame that they perhaps deserve, at least partly due to their being American and playing a style of metal that is currently more in vogue in Europe.

The band's most recent album, Beware, was released in July 2004.

Steel Prophet are one of those bands I've been meaning to check out forever but other than hearing them on a few tribute albums or compilation CDs I have never gotten round to hearing a full S.P. disc till now. When I first spun BEWARE my immediate reaction was "WOW, where has this band been all my life?" This is good, catchy stuff, right up the same street as two of my favorites, Iced Earth and Jag Panzer. It was interesting to find out that Nadir D'Priest, formerly the lead singer of perennial L.A. glam rock also-rans London (whom some of you might remember from the movie "Decline Of Western Civilization part II: The Metal Years") was Steel Prophet's lead singer on BEWARE -- I thought having a glam-oriented singer on a power metal album would be an odd mix but Nadir WAILS on this disc. Now I guess I have to start collecting more Steel Prophet albums!! By the way, the edition sold here at CDBaby includes a bonus disc called "Eyes of the Prophet: Visions Past," a collection of live tracks, demos and other odds and ends, so you can't beat the value for the money. Metalheads, pick this one up with confidence!
