notes
At the epicenter of Stayte are Joshua Bradford (vocals/lyrics) and Clayton Worbeck (guitars/electronics).
Originally from Vancouver, Canada, the band signed to punk label Nefer Records in 1999, and released its first full-length album ‘Growing Pains’. The album cemented Stayte’s position at the fore of Canada’s industrial music scene, and as the band’s fan base widened across the west coast of North America, Stayte pulled up stumps and headed for the bright lights of southern California.
Surfing the swell of momentum inspired by the change of city, Stayte released ‘Abandon in the Amber’ in 2002. The album propelled Stayte to the stages and sell-out shows of such legendary venues as the Whiskey, the Roxy and the House of Blues. The infectious single from the album, ‘Slip Your Mind’, came in at number one on Radio306.com’s weekly top 30 Countdown, and cinched the number 20 spot for Song of the Year in 2003. The following year the band won the Fender Battle Of The Bands at the Venetian Ballroom in Las Vegas, rounding out a successful year on the road.
With mounting respect from their peers, Stayte commenced work on the release ‘Cognitive Dissonance (The Art Of Lying To Yourself)’ in late 2005. Collaborating on the EP was one of industrial music’s best, Paul Barker (ex-Ministry, Revolting Cocks).
At the same time, an ironic twist for anyone familiar with the history of Ministry saw Joshua and Clayton come to the attention of Ministry front man Al Jourgensen and his label, 13th Planet Records.
Developing a rapport with the industrial metal stalwart, Joshua and Clayton were recruited to perform with Al’s infamous side-project The Revolting Cocks, joining such luminaries as Jello Biafra, Gibby Hanes (Butthole Surfers) and former members Trent Reznor and Timothy Leary.
In 2006 the Ministry/ Revolting Cocks ‘MasterBaTour’ hit 58 cities across North America. As lead vocalist for RevCo, Joshua wowed audiences throughout the continent, and the LA show earned the tour a rare 5 ‘K’ review in Kerrang Magazine. The tour was a coup for Stayte. Joshua and Clayton won over new fans every night, and album sales for ‘Abandon in the Amber’ skyrocketed.
After the tour, Stayte launched back in to the recording of ‘Cognitive Dissonance’. Never ones to be idle, Clayton became the official ‘In-House Remix Master’ for 13th Planet Records, and in less than a year remixed over 24 tracks spanning three albums for the Revolting Cocks and Ministry (RevCo’s ‘Cocktail Mixxx’ [2006], Ministry’s ‘Rio Grande Dub’ [2007] and the soon-to-be released Ministry album ‘The Last Sucker’). Joshua contributed vocals to ‘The Last Sucker’, and also toured the US and Canada with side-project, Simple Shelter.
