'Didjeriblue' is a limited edition CD, and is almost sold out. When they're gone, they're gone forever, so get your copy while you can!

THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC

Street musicians in Sydney, Australia gave Mike Starling his first taste of the didgeridoo and he immediately sought to incorporate the earthy tones of the ancient Aboriginal wind instrument into his music. On this first volume of his "Didjeriblue" series, the composer creates bluesy world beat chill-out music you'll listen to again and again. Immerse yourself in a shimmering, deep digital global soundscape mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Brett Huus.

"Makes me wanna wear my moose pelvic headdress and power dance spring equinox mountain chants beside the Matanuska Glacier." –Wyld Bill, Anchorage, Alaska

WHERE HAVE I HEARD THIS BEFORE?

INSIDE THE MUSIC...

On this album, composer Mike Starling plays acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, didgeridoo, dobro, organ, kalimba (an African thumb piano), and a wide array of drums from his ever-growing collection of exotic percussion instruments from around the globe. He collaborates with fellow didge player Reid Runzheimer on "Delta Didj" and samples Reid's didgeridoo "bark" on the song "Ferrocarril."

DOI THE DOO kicks off with a funky didge loop and builds to a crescendo with the addition of melodic African-inspired guitar lines, deep bass grooves and layers of breathy vocal stylings and exotic percussion.

FERROCARRIL: A pulsating meringue beat frames a hot guitar hook, didgeridoo "barks" and an electric guitar solo with a Santana-like emotional intensity.

FUNKEE MONKEE: A driving Euro dance pulse and infectious bass melody are complemented by trancy electric guitar textures and a hypnotic didge loop.

SO LONGING is a 14-minute trance track built on a bossa nova beat and a bluesy organ riff overlaid with jazzy piano chords, biting slide guitar lines, and a sensuous flamenco-style lead.

TURPENTINE's snake-charmer dobro melody is spiced up with dueling bass guitars and a didge played through a wah-wah pedal.

SUPERBALL (named after Mike's favorite childhood toy) bounces along with a playful acid jazz beat while spacey guitar melodies weave in and out of the funky groove. Note the unique didge and voice harmonies on the fills.

DELTA DIDJ: This spontaneous 10-minute improv with Mike and guest didge player Reid Runzheimer demonstrates how the ancient Australian instrument is right at home playing down-home American blues.
