notes
Sleepy Old Town is enchanting and extraordinarily soothing. This new CD of 14 original lullabies and childrens songs focuses on the emotional desire for a safer, more loving, reassuring world for children everywhere. It has been lovingly created with an all real orchestra! (Not one synth.) - Including strings, grand piano, great harp, oboe, bassoon, flute and more! Sleepy Old Town appeals to children and their parents. To paraphrase Mark Twain’s preface to Tom Sawyer: ‘Although these songs are intended mainly for boys and girls, we hope they will not be shunned by men and women on that account, for part of our plan has been to try pleasantly to remind adults of what they once were themselves, and of how they felt and thought and talked.’ This describes perfectly what it is about the best lullabies, the best children’s songs and the best children’s stories that make them relevant and popular throughout successive generations.
All the songs on this CD were written and performed by Steve Stapley and Lynda Hayes, who are married with two children.
Steve Stapley is a prolific and gifted singer songwriter. Born in London England, Steve spent 4 years as a writer and recording artist at DJM. He left London in the 1980’s to write and perform in Los Angeles, where he became a house writer with L.E.M. America. Emotive, intelligent lyrics and beautiful melodies are the hallmark of Steve’s work which includes the French number one single 'Casualty of Love' together with five lyric adaptations on Johnny Halladay's gold album, 'En V.Q’. Steve sang in the rock choir on Evita for the film and soundtrack album, and worked with Sir Tim Rice and Alan Parker road-testing lyrics and melodies for Antonio Banderas. Most recently, he can be heard singing The Gambler as well as being part of the spaghetti western ‘Elvis Choir’, on the score for the BBC Series ‘Blackpool.’ Two years ago, Steve formed Paydirt Productions Ltd, a multimedia company that has allowed him to utilise his talents as a film maker and writer.
Lynda Hayes is a multi-talented singer, voice-over artist and radio presenter. After graduating from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Lynda toured America singing in clubs and concert venues. Working between London, LA and New York, Lynda has recorded and/or toured with Nik Kershaw (Human Racing), George Michael and Wham! (Lynda sang shared vocals and the lead rap on Young Guns which went to number 3 in the charts worldwide), Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, Barry Manilow, All About Eve, Ocean Colour Scene, Spike Milligan, Katrina and the Waves and many others. Lynda had the Christmas number one record in 1994 with Mr. Blobby where she sang lead vocal, backing vocals and was vocal arranger. Her voice has helped sell thousands of products including; Coca Cola, Lincoln Mercury, Mercedes Benz, Martini, Barbie Dolls, Nescafe, American Airlines, Toys R Us and many more. She has presented her own radio talk show; 'Lovin' with Lynda' on London’s LBC - which achieved laudable listening figures and made her a London-wide celebrity. Lynda has just finished working on the new 'Noddy' children’s series for the USA, where she sings all 25 songs and is the reader/narrator of all the Noddy stories. She has recently recorded the title track for the Lauren Bacall film, ‘The Limit’, as well as a feature vocal on These Boots are Made for Walkin’ in the BBC TV series Blackpool, and featured in the Sky series HEX singing Look Me Over Closely.

The lights are going out on this sleepy old town
And all the good people are safely in bed
Resting their heads on their eiderdown pillows
Here in this sleepy old town, sleepy old town
The houses in the street lean back into the yards
From years of spring cleaning and working so hard
Keeping the doors open wide on their hinges
Here in this sleepy old town, sleepy old town
Nobody's awake after quarter to twelve
Everyone's sleeping wonderfully well
The fires are burning low, though snow is on the ground
The children are dreaming up in their rooms
Knowing tomorrow there'll be ice on the windows
Here in this sleepy old town, sleepy old town
The lights are going out on this sleepy old town
And all the good people are safely in bed
Resting their heads on their eiderdown pillows
Here in this sleepy old town, here in this sleepy old town
Here in this sleepy old town, sleepy old town

What a beautiful CD! My favourite lullaby collection ever!
author: C. BeckwithI played this CD all the time for my now 10 and 8 year old girls and then sadly lost it so my son missed out. But I have a 6 month old baby and I was determined to find it online and I did! I am thrilled to revisit all these wonderful songs with our new baby. They take me back to my own childhood. A really special collection of songs. Thank you!!!
A must-have for every new parent!
author: Liz PhillipsThis CD is a wonderful collection of heart-warming lullabies that reflect the beauty of being a parent and the wonders of "falling in love" with your child. The songs will remain in your and your child's hearts forever. They are well-crafted and well-produced, too!

Refreshing Lullabies
author: Mary Ann WhiteThe clear and distictive voices and music make for a most enjoyable, refreshing listening for baby and all ages. Angel On My Pillow is my favoite track.
A treasure of tunes, for sure!
author: Alan Laurie, ArtistSleepy Old Town" is a treasure! When my twin grand niece and nephew visit for the night, we play this CD. They dance around trying to sing along to "Toy Train and Catfish" and they are just learning to speak! The best part for us is that when we play the title song for them, they know it is bedtime and before you know it, they are asleep!Thank You!
Adults will love it too.
author: Dar SwordMy son is slightly autistic and has his rare days when he becomes agitated/frustrated. We found there's nothing we can do outside of an anti-anxiety type drug. Purely by accident, we discovered this CD calms and quiets him better than any drug ever could. And... we also found it calms and brings the world back into focus for his parents as well! I'll be eternally grateful for the soothing style of these lullabies.
Delightful melodies - refreshing vocals
author: Frances MaisIt was refreshing to hear a well put together CD of lullabyes with a quirky c&w feel
I wish my 18 year old was 3 again!
author: Teresa WadeGentle, uplifting, original. This will make you singalong, sleep, clap your hands, smile. A bonus for bedtime for all young ones.
Sounds lovely and gets the kids to sleep fast!
author: Simon BeestonI bought this by chance and it tturned out to be an absolutly wonderful CD - I play it to my kids (3 years and 9 years) once they are up in bed. They love it so much they race to get into bed to listen to it - and when they do it takes one or two songs and they're in dreamland. And I have to admit my wife and I often borrow the CD to relax with ourselves - the gentle guitar and soothing calm vocal melodies really are better than Horlics or camomile tea! This beautiful CD is well worth buying if you have kids, as a present, or even for your own enjoyment. You won't regret it : )
Contemporary, heart-felt, parent-to-child lullabies for all children
author: Jaynie DillonThis CD is a must-have for every home. Its uniqueness defies description or categorization. The vocal harmonies and simple purity of acoustic instruments set the tone for this breathtakingly beautiful and remarkable compilation. When Lynda Hayes and Steve Stapley merged their lives and musical careers, they brought two precious children into the world. As their hearts overflowed with love for their little boys, they recognized a void that existed in popular music: no modern-day lullabies existed to soothe or comfort children. They were inspired to co-write, perform, and produce the songs in this collection. The melodies and lyrics are heart-warming and memorable. Each tune resonates in a special way as you and your children listen and absorb the loving, comforting themes throughout. It is quite simply the perfect antidote to the troubling times in which we live.
Beautiful collection
