notes
This is Stan's long awaited third studio album and has been acclaimed as his best yet. Superbly produced by Stevie Lawrence with Ian Anderson on Fiddle, Wendy Weatherby on Cello, Iain Lowthian on Accordion, Frazier Speirs on Harmonica, Tommy Roseburgh on Keyboards and the multi-instrumental skills of Stevie Lawrence, this really is an outstanding collection of songs, sensitively arranged and not musical corrupted, that you will listen to time and time again.
As you would expect from a writer of this quality, it contains a number of what are sure to be future classics. The monumental traditional sounds of “Whitby Harbour”, which is already being played and covered by some of the top musicians in the country, the resounding story line and sadness of “All The Young Soldiers”, the stunning musical arrangement of the more politically motivated “Rolling River Farm”, written with Mike Silver, the stunning classic lyrics of “Songs For The Lonely” and the moving sentiments of “Christmas Soldier and Michael And His Medals. Add to this the upbeat rhythms of “Somewhere In America” and “Easy Street” and you have an album which contains something for everyone and will not disappoint the listener. This is a varied and thoughtful selection of songs from a writer who combines great vocals with sensitive and well crafted lyrics. Superbly supported by some of the best musicians in Scotland, this is an exceptional album by any standard and has that rarest of commodities found on CD’s these days, value for money in every track.

Along The Way
author: Eric PayneMy wife and I ordered all three albums and have listened carefully to each track with considerable interest - a very varied selection of terrific material which is performed with evocative feeling and a fine voice that is in no hurry to rush through soul written and highly descriptive, often passionate, words. A number of distinguished supporting artiste's serve only to embrace and enhance the songs weaving, as they do, with a sensative and melodic charm that kisses Stan's enviable tunes with just the right ammount of magic. We are both impressed, what we hear is evidence beyond measure of his deserved popularity in song writing and performance..............how do he do it?..............some of the lines Stan has used are quite amazing. He clearly 'cares' a great deal..........and it shows! Huge congratulations on all that this artist has achieved. 'Along The Way' is outstanding. Put us firmly on your mailing list for future CD's. Thank you again. Eric & Eileen Payne.

author: G McGillExcellent album, full of good songs and clear vocals. The more you play it the more it gets to you. The album had a very nice modern Celtic feel to it, I thought the production and musicians were both top notch, they really complemented Stan's warm vocals and thoughtful lyrics. My favorite Folk/Songwriter CD for a number of years. George McGill

A true gem
author: Peter KesslerThere's music to tickle your toes, shiver your spine and gladden your heart. Top notch or "chapeau" as the French say.
Brillient Purchase
author: Glen CogginsI have only played the album a few times but even then I was grabbed immediately by several songs, Rolling River Farm, Whitby Harbour (of course), Michael And His Medals, Forgotten Fields, All The Young Soldiers. I'm astounded by the quality of the songwriting, very clever meaningful lyrics, it really comes across how much effort he puts into each line. It's been caught perfectly in the studio. a real gem of an album. It's going to be played a lot. Can't say enough how much I've enjoyed everthing about this album, the songs, the singing the musicians. Makes change from my normal list of compliants.

author: Rob CollinsAnother superb album from a superb songwriter. As with More Than Words, this one really grows om you and just gets better and better. There are some great musical moments which brings depth and feeling to the songs. Fantastic musicans. As usual he has a number of show stoppers, I really like Rolling River Farm, Whitby Harbour and All The Young Soldiers, the last track Forgotten Fields was also one of my favorites. I'm become quite a fan of Stan's easy going style, so his more up beat songs, Easy Street and Somewhere in America came a something of a pleasant suprise. I also like the mix of styles on this album, bit of traditional, some more contemporary, nice touch. Ive been playing it constantly since I bought it, another great collection of well recorded songs. Why does this guy not get more recognition, it amazes me! He should be up there with the best. Great album, great songs, I thought it was wonderful value. It's well worth adding to you collection.
