SELECTOR SWITCH ON (ROCK AND ROLL)

"...a top-quality CD of rootsy rock.... all about (being in-country)..."
Veteran Magazine, 2007

" My husband just grins when he listens to it. I would recommend this CD to everyone!" (see Reviews below)

‘When I first heard the nine-song compilation of Selector Switch On (Rock and Roll), and as a combat veteran of the Vietnam war, I was absolutely astounded by the profoundness of the lyrics and I was touched by the 60s-ish, familiar-sounding melodies. After playing them all several times, I turned to my wife and said: "If you want to learn something about me, listen to these songs." I think the wives, children and grandchildren of every Vietnam veteran should hear these tunes... particularly the track Changing of the Guard. And I know every Vietnam veteran who hears these songs will say the same thing I did: "There it is, man."’
Charles ‘Doc’ Newcomb, Navy Medic, TV Photojournalist & filmmaker

" A real in-country feel..." Veteran Magazine, 1993

The songs take me back to a point in my life where both high and low emotions intertwined daily, when the men I was with were making history, and how my life was shaped. I guard my emotional vault carefully and open the door to it selectively. If visitors come, they better hold their ears because this CD is playing on full "Rock and Roll".

I really appreciate all the great reviews you folks are leaving here. Thanks for taking the time... and sharing your feelings. I have to agree with Edy T Johnson; my personal favorite song it "When I Had You" which is a song about a composite of two women in my life. Elayna was my highschool sweetheart and we were to marry... she was at my bootcamp graduation... but it was not to be. Secondly, Paulette and I became engaged and her letters kept me sane in Nam... until I finally got that dreaded "Dear John" letter from her. She was pregnant from someone else and partying down back home.... hence, the lyrics speak my heartbreak....

Like others who listen to this compilation, only those who were there and experienced the times and language terms can really appreciate what's here. Great stuff....

I was in country from 1966 to 1968 and I think this album really gives the feeling of being there, I love it, just wish I would have known about it sooner. Lets hear more like it. Thanks

I ordered this cd for my husband, a Viet Nam veteran, who was in Washington DC for the 25th Anniversary of The Wall, but missed the band playing. The lyrics and music are right on! My husband just grins when he listens to it. I would recommend this cd to everyone!

This old WWII combat vet (ETO FO) did not cut his teeth on rock and roll; however, I sure understand your music message sent via this CD. It crosses the generation gap without doubt! Best wishes with the album. Heard your fantastic interview with Meria. Best wishes!

The CD is great, I was never in country I was on the USS Coral Sea in the South China Sea. However I was in a combat unit during Desert Strom so I can relate to this most incredible album.

The CD was extra ordinarily good. I really liked it. I play it only when I am alone at this time. I have been married twice and am divorced. Keep up your good work on the music that means so much to us. Thank you very very much.

I was amazed at how I felt when I played the album. The song I really like was Loaded Gun. You did good on that album. Thank you so very much for putting it out.

Do you ever buy an album for just one song? "When I Had You" is the song that made me have to have this one; so haunting I repeat-played it countless times. One copy wasn't enough, I bought a spare for a gift.

  • "Themes still resonate"
    author: Lea Jones

From Mike Joyce at the Washington Post: ".... it's a wonder political opposites Waszkiewicz and Jones got together in the first place. But the music holds up surprisingly well, partly because it was originally intended to sound like something out of the past, in sync with '60s rock, folk and blues, and partly because, in light of the war in Iraq, many of its themes still resonate. "Loaded Gun," for example, concerns post-traumatic stress disorder: "Haunted by dreams you can't outrun / Now you share your bed with a loaded gun." .... Waszkiewicz and Jones manage to colorfully evoke a wide variety of moods on this recording...." Friday, August 3, 2007
