notes

The Spolkestra is a 15-piece art-pop collective hailing from London to Belfast and Inverness to Orkney. Combining leftfield rock influences with their diverse musical backgrounds, the Spolkestra create an energetic and exciting mesh of solar pop and browbeat modernism. Featuring a huge range of electric and acoustic instruments, from saxophones to electric guitars and cellos to synthesisers, The Spolkestra are known to surprise their audience at every turn.

OPEN ARMS
Open Arms is the debut EP from The Spolkestra, the 15-piece musical circus hailing from all over the UK. Recorded in 2007, Open Arms is canned art-pop: a marriage of dissonant art tradition with bombastic big band dynamics. It's a widescreen cinematic tear through territory first charted by the American and Canadian independent leftfield (the Animal Collective, Broken Social Scene and the Arcade Fire) merged with the art-pop dialectic in the tradition of the Art Bears, Bark Psychosis and the Dirty Projectors and the immediate energy of
punk bands like The Clash and Les Savy Fav.
