FIRST TIME EVER ON CD!

This release of Split 3 Ways by Splitwater Creek roughly marks the 25th anniversary of the original vinyl release of 1980. Recorded at Jack Clement Recorders in Nashville, TN, by award winning producer/engineer Billy Sherrill (Kenny Rogers, Marshall Tucker Band, Dixie Chicks), the songs presented here became the core of the band's show which built an enormous following in the nation's heartland in the late 70's and early 80's.
The group logged hundreds of performances on college campuses and in the packed bars nearby, to showcase venues in major metro areas, as well as to huge crowds at
festivals, arenas and stadiums. From these stages and local record stores, thousands of copies of this country-rock bluegrass folk album flooded over a six state area and received strong regional airplay, all in an era of disco and punk.
Based out of western Kentucky, the high harmony, hot picking quartet consisted of Brady Howle - vocals, bass and harmonica, Norris Sherrill - vocals and lead guitar,
Rusty McElrath - vocals, banjo and guitar, and Kenny Snow (who joined the group after the first pressing) - vocals, mandolin and fiddle. To round out the recordings, the services of drummer Bobby Daniels, pianist Steve Glasmeyer, and pedal steel player Mike Stanton
were added. The resulting music was to become a cult classic - especially in college markets - across Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri and Illinois.
Every effort has been made to preserve the package design, content, and crisp sound of the original release. Digitally remastered at AudioGraphic Masterworks in
Memphis, TN, this Silver Anniversary Edition of Split 3 Ways is now available for the first time ever on CD, due to popular demand.

Like Mark R. I too remember Brady and Norris as the Hot Damn Brothers. I was a Doorman and Bartender at Gatsbys in '78 - '79. My autographed album came back to life without the pops and crackles when I played the CD. The music is timeless and the production flawless thanks to "Uncle Billy". The talent of course, awesome. The memories priceless. I tried for over 2 years to book these guys into Nashville North in Bensenville but we could never find an opening or agree on "paying for rooms". Last saw Brady playing in C'Dale with whom I believe was his sister Holly, I believe he said her name was, sometime in the late 80's I think. I've checked out Norris' website. Doesn't make me feel so bad being fat and gray at 50 looking at him and remembering that beanpole with the lightning fingers! This album is nothing less than perfect. Always was.

Used ti listen to Splitwater at several differnet places in mostly Paducah, loved hearing them play, I moved off to Wyoming and they released the album a few weeks later, good friend of mine sent me one, he knew the wife and I would both really think it was cool. I had just played that album for a friend of mine in Wyoming a couple weeks ago, we had been talking about really good local bands we had heard. Decided just for the heck of it to do a search for Splitwater, and to my suprise, found the site and CD, some days just go really well. Really sorry to here about Rusty, hadn't heard about that, makes me really appreciate the sundown possum.

Thanks for making this album available on CD. I had the pleasure of knowing Rusty in the 90's, and it's so good to hear his voice and picking again.

The first time I heard these guys was when we hired them to play at Double D's Saloon in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I was the bartender! One of the best jobs I ever had, took me 6 years to get through college.

  • Splitwater Creek has superb harmonies
    author: Mark Rouleau

It is truly wonderful to hear the classic harmonies of Brady, Norris and Rusty again. They are emblazoned on my memory from Monday nights at Gatsby's in C'dale in the late 70's where Brady and Norris first appeared as the "Hot Damn Brothers." Later adding the rich voice of Rusty and his banjo. The superb flat-picking of Norris really stands out on the CD. The album was recorded my last semester of college and they had worked all of these tunes into their shows on the circuit. The original songs are a wonderful mix of all the elements of their varied acoustic playing styles ranging the entire gamut of folk, bluegrass, country and even some rock. This was such a great and hardworking band it is really a shame that they didn't achieve more recognition. I am really thankful that this music has been re-released. I echo the sentiments of other devotes to Splitwater Creek and hope that a CD will be released of some of their bar shows.

  • just like I remember it...

So nice to get a digital version of the old album, complete with additional artwork. Takes me right back memory lane, to Gatsby's in Carbondale in 1981. What a great idea. Can't wait for a live album! This is classic bluegrass/country mix. All orignal music, no cover. Great banjo, acoustic and vocals. Highly recommend.
