The album at a glance…

1) Hell boy meets hell girl - “The apocalyptic opener slams elements of new wave punk, into some kinda of giant wall crawling fuckin’ metal insect. We are then thrown into orbit for some epic space movie theme only to come crashing back to earth for a good kicking round the school yard! I want to be 14 again listening to my older brother’s record collection, no, hang on I’ve got it here all on one album!”
2) Hide the porn start the war – “they deliver some killer licks, dance friendly grooves, immense hooks and yes, some hard hitting rap.” Pete Feenstra. GET READY TO ROCK. http://www.getreadytorock.com/reviews2007/the_spectaculars.htm
"Hyperbolic saskwatchian metal funk rap fusion with progressive leanings." Celtic Rock Music
3) The road – “a chunk of melancholic eighties northern English indie rock fused with the ‘theme from shaft’ and a middle 8 from ‘tales from topographic oceans’… After listening to this I feel melancholic, heartbroken and exhausted but strangely emancipated in some way”
4) Frankenstein – “goes to show how after 30 years the Misfits are still influencing new rock acts.”
5) Right here right now - “Sheeez! It’s like some kinda vicious pop music! R&B, Human League and Fat boy slim. What a mash up!”
6) Wasted - “It’s like playing into a jumbo jet engine.” – Chris Shaw Sax.
7) Apocalypse beach party – “If Robert Rodriguez is looking for a soundtrack to his next cocky, shoot 'em up thriller he need look no further than The Spectaculars' debut album Vicious Pop” Swansea Evening Post
8) The river – “This is the kind of music which you think ‘hey this is real heavy. Like it’s not metal but it comes from somewhere else.’”
9) Ballistic - “First heard these guys on (US) college radio and I thought it was some kinda electro clash of the red hot chilli peppers and Jimi Hendrix playing at a Funkadelic / Parliament mothership convention! A gift for US radio.”
10) Higher – “A truck full of riffs from hell. I get the feeling that the devil’s been down to the South Wales delta again and signed up another band at the crossroads. This one justifies the Roses / MAN comparisons. Be warned… Spectaculars UK… hell hounds on yo’ trail!”

well. i followed the band and labels advice and downloaded the album at the bargain $8.00 price tag. thats £4 GBP in th UK so real cheap considering the real deal (CD) is discounted in UK indies stores at £9 GBP ($18.00 USD!!!) anyhoo screw all that money bullshit and exchange rates (but by in USD dollars you British ucks and save yerself a tonne!). the result is in the listening and i have followed all the bands development on myspace in particular. the cd baby notes which look like they were written by the bands press officer are actually spot on. so i'll save my praise in that regard. suffice to say i think that this album is a British / Welsh? natural treasure. I'll be one of the hardcore who will say when they're second album (which i'm sure will come via a more 'major' route
