Walls of sound, white noise drone, psychedelic fuzz swirls, a tribute to sonic astronauts everywhere.

notes

"All that was once directly lived has become a mere representation."
- Guy Debord, Society of the Spectacle

A mysterious apartment fire, cause still unknown.

A young man obsessed with music says good bye to his keyboards, demos and a record collection dating back to adolescence. Instead of a curse, he takes this as a liberating omen. Coming from the industrial/Goth nexus of synth based rock, the new indie initiate abandons the past and commits to his new instrument, a semi-hollowbody electric guitar.

He immerses himself in walls of sound, white noise drone, and psychedelic fuzz swirls. Late at night, he builds a laboratory at home. Road trips to backass music shops in far off places like Tanis, New Hampshire, Felton, PA and Phillipsburg, NJ following leads to rare effects pedals, no name analog echo chambers from the 60's, lo fi Radio Shack reverb with RCA plugs. He combines the old with the new, maxing credit cards on digital processors, then spends night and day surfing the possibility of sound.

Finally, he emerges from his pirate lab with a self released debut album, "Just In Time For Nothing" (another way of saying "Too Late"). A unique concept recording honoring shoegazers and feedback merchants like The Jesus and Mary Chain, Slowdive and Sonic Youth, a tribute to sonic astronauts everywhere.

JITFN, not the final creation imagined by our hero, guitar scientist HADRIAN MORDECAI, simply an introduction by way of the past to the futuristic aural experiment incubating within his mind. THE AQUARIAN said, "Superficial bitches beware, this boy is a deadly sharp cookie for real, and if this be 'shoegazer' fodder, then let that electro-energy surround me baby." AMPLIFIER warned, "Mordecai paints sound collages with the artsy nocturnal aura most closely associated with Pink Floyd, My Bloody Valentine and Spiritualized...The Spectacle Experiment display the ability to wreak sonic pandemonium."

THE SPECTACLE EXPERIMENT, now a full band featuring JITFN hyperactive drummer Scott Wilson and his lovely wife Mary Ann on bass making love to the rhythm, framing Hadrian's dreamy soundscapes with thump and fury. They are playing regularly in the NYC area and preparing the next installment of the scientist's sonic prophecy. Coming to a galaxy near you.

  • Sit back and enjoy a monetary lapse of reason.

    The Spectacle Experiment is reall the modus operandi for singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hadrian Mordecai, who paints sound collages with the artsy, nocturnal aura most closely associated with Pink Floyd, My Bloody Valentine and Spiritualized. An even split between the nihilistic aesthetic of punk and craftmanship of classic rock, TSE display the ability to wreak sonic pandemonium with tracks such as "One More Day" and "Just Like You" or to slip into reflective bliss on acoustic-based cuts including "Last You'll Ever Hear From Me" and "Out of Focus." Though Mordecai's lyrics often border on the pedestrian, his angst-filled vocals and inventive arrangements drawn from the collective din of synthesizers, violins, guitars, and assorted space effects reasonably compensate for the occassional glitch in the verse. The finale "Never Thought" is a neo-psychedelic gem. If there's another one-man band ready for the big leagues. it's the Spectacle Experiment.

  • Tomita on Ecstasy and ‘Shrooms
    author: Chris Barry - The Aquarian Weekly

    ... Superficial bitches beware, this boy is a deadly sharp cookie for real, and if this be ‘shoegazer’ fodder, then let that electro- energy surround me baby. Because the guitars and FX just meld intensely with dark lyrical themes and embracingly ominous anthems, and by third song ‘Just Like You’, you strain to hear the whispers over the backbeats and all you want is more: A clanging guitar shoots sparks into this song about over-identifying with an identity crisis; who cares if its yours/hers or ITS, the aural buzz and a noisier backdrop only amplifiy the song’s angry hook and Hadrian’s shifting vocal persona. ... These foreboding sonic dreamscapes are often punctuated by primordial guitar riffs and anguished yells. Your ear may hear a scream, but Hadrian insists that ‘those are yells, not screams.’ Regardless, this is one lunging beauty of a project that should be heard by fans of all alterna-genres;

  • a great job recapturing the fuzzy angst of Sonic Youth
    author: Bob Makin - The Courier News

    Spectacle Experiment does a great job recapturing the fuzzy angst of Sonic Youth, while putting a whole new spin on it with mopey albeit danceable melodies ala Portishead. Controlled, Nine Inch Nails-like anger also runs through the band's strong indie debut, ``Just in Time for Nothing.'' Also like Nine Inch Nails, Spectacle Experiment is pretty much a one-man band, multi-instrumentalist Hadrian Mordecai, with special guests in the studio and on stage. On some of Mordecai's songs, such as ``Just Like You,'' there's a healthy dose of punk underneath a delicious gnarl of feedback. Then there's haunting acoustic tunes, such as ``Last You'll Hear From Me,'' making for a nice mix of mangled beauty swathed in rage and sadness.
