South Side Cindy & The Slip-Tones Bio

South Side Cindy & The Slip-Tones is one of the most vibrant blues & soul shows to come out in recent years. The clarity and originality of their songwriting is unmistakable Slip-Tones. It is beautifully uncategorical and a fresh new feel for the blues. The dynamics of their stage presence is pure energy and class.

(South Side) Cindy Youngren is from Illinois “where The Blues was not born” but she has been a major influence to make it what it is today. Cindy has a smooth and dominating voice that can reach inside you to sooth your personal spirits or instantly raise an audience to the edge of the stage to soak in her energy. Her sultry lows bring a taste of desire in songs such as “It Only Hurts A Little Bit”, and her power highs are athletic and moving in “Livin ‘til I Die” and “Janey Jo” to name a few.

The musicians: This is a band who has worked together for six years and achieved just an abnormal ability to write and perform together. Each musician owns a spontaneous feel for every move of each other member of the band. Ladies first:

(West Side) Wendy Gossett brings tight, clear harmonies and locks magically in to each note to triple its intensity. This is truly a case where the collection is even greater than the sum of its parts. Wendy has also toured with such artists as The Dave Chastain Band.

James Patrick Donahue III – Brings third generation talent from the Donahue family of keyboarding and overall composing/arranging. James Patrick is just as exciting to watch as to listen to on rauchous piano as well as his “Slip” tone style on the organ.

Steve Youngren is the hot lead guitarist for The Slip-Tones. He takes on writing the core music structure and rings out the sexy riffs on his Youngren Special (electric blues guitar built by Steve himself). Steve knows when less is more, and . . . when more is more.

Jeff (it has to be good) Smucker, is indeed a jelly family descendant and one hell of a drummer. After 10 years in Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff has rejoined Steve on guitar and brought to life the sound they had perfected years before as “Albany Quest”.

“E” Johnson brings all the bass in the world and a powerful stand in leading the rhythm section. South Side looks to E to bring everyone along for the ride. E was previously the integral bass of Slow Traffic.

  • Oh... the Sliptones!

"Oh, Road" is an incredible song. I love this album and have nearly worn it out commuting to work. Big, full "big city" sound with the soul of a group that has lived life.
