Long Time Coming

Jay's Smooth Jazz guitar stylings are fresh, innovative and tasty. Lot's of amazing guitar work. His sense of melodies are memorable and technique, solid. He seemlessly incorporates many styles such as Pop, R&B and Latin into his guitar playing.

notes

A musician at the age of 5, Jay began his musical journey by learning to play the drums. By age 7, he had just begun to pursue his classical studies on the piano. Soon, his true passion was revealed at age 12 when he picked up the guitar for the first time.

Since then, Jay has continued to live out his dreams as a full-time musician. He has been a church choir director for many years, currently directing at St. Helen's Church in Glendale, AZ with a congregation of over 2,000 families.

He is an accomplished composer, arranger and producer as well, with a number of songs airing on television on such shows as Sex and the City (HBO) and All About Us (NBC). He has played with numerous other talented musicians in the Phoenix Metro area and has opened for many renowned artists.

Last year, Jay entered the most respected guitar competition in the U.S., Guitar Center's Guitarmageddon Competition. He won the local, district and regional competitions and was one of six finalists out of over 3,000 guitarists nation-wide to compete in the Grand Finals held at Eric Clapton's Guitar Festival in Dallas, Texas playing for an audience of over 15,000.

Jay has just released his debut CD, Long Time Coming, featuring an array of Smooth Jazz sounds that are sure to be pleasing to all ears. The album has special guest appearances by saxophone sensation, Michael Lington. The new release is a great way to get a taste of Jay's abilities as a guitarist, composer, arranger and producer. He is seeking to make his ultimate dream come true which is to be signed by a major Smooth Jazz label. This is truly the beginning of something very special for all who hear what he has to say through his guitar and his music.

For lovers of jazz guitar, this CD is a must-have ! It rivals the work of Chieli Minucci in its smooth style and the virtuosity of Soto's playing. It's in my car, on my computer, and on my i-Pod.

It would be another mystery of the universe if Jay isn't signed by a major and propelled into the ranks of the top smoothjazz artists. I will always have a Jay Soto CD in my collection. I love true artists, and he is beyond a doubt, a true artist.

What is a better proof for good music than great acclaims by many websites. It's easy to find his music and it's easier to like it. Jay Soto's debut album "Long Time Coming" is an excellent visiting-card showcasing the multifarious styles of this high-talented guitarist. Recorded at SotoPop Studios "St. Helen's in Glendale, produced by Jay himself, he has written all songs except the last tune. He also arranged all tunes, played guitars, keyboards and drum programming. Normally I would expect that such a record would be suffering from a lack of inputs of other artists. Far off the mark! Jay's music sounds fresh and creative. Read further at the above mentioned link.

This is a very nice debut cd. I jammed all the way through this cd. He should make a major music label soon with no problem. He's working with some good people. This a really nice cd and I would recommend it to all my friends.

The music is upbeat and melodic, and encompasses a variety of styles & moods. And as for Soto, well this man possesses loads of tone, a fact that he repeated demonstrates as his fingers literally fly over the strings. Being the sap that I am, I'm drawn to the pieces that are for me at least, emotionally evocative. The stuff that tugs at my heart. I've already slotted three incredible tracks for this & future shows and I'm certain there will be more. A highly commendable first effort and one that ranks among the finer breakthru releases for the year !!
