Album Notes

\"The light inside will set me free\", powerful lyrics from the title track of singer/songwriter Sora\'s EP, Light, an offering filled with it\'s own numinosity. Indeed the light that Sora (aka, Andrea Hunt), brings to her songwriting is hard to deny. With a sound that is at once bright and soulful, rich with nuance, she weaves together the natural reverence of Celtic music with the emotional appeal of folk, all while finding that perfect balance between realism and transcendence. Her music is grounded within a powerful lyricism both natural and organic, words that create true moments colored by her sonorous voice. Sora\'s musical history is its own complex tapestry, as she worked her way through violin and piano to find her voice. \"I toured, recorded, and played my violin in what seems like a different lifetime. That time seems so separate from my singing, especially because I took years off from music in between and yet there is a continuity - every moment leading me to the discovery of my voice. In my teens I don\'t think I was ready for it. Now that I am comfortable within myself, it seems natural to find that I have a powerful voice hidden within\". After an on-the-floor recording of Irish folk songs, Winds of Change (2003), Sora\'s focus shifted to the original music she had within. Almost serendipitously she connected with Juno-nominated producer, Douglas Romanow, with whom she recorded all 4 tracks on \"Light.\" With plans to be in the recording studio this year, a full length CD is not far off. It is sure that the luminous songs of \"Light\" are but a taste of what is to come. \"Sora\'s ballads are filled with sincerity and pristine beauty. Her combination of folk and neoclassical is stunning and defies easy pigeonholing. It\'s simply glorious music. I immediately had to order Winds Of Change after hearing Light, and I\'m looking forward to Sora\'s second full length. You should go to Sora\'s Myspace where this complete EP can be listened. Sadly it is myspace quality. The sound on CD is so much better and well worth your money. This is one of the best EP\'s I\'ve heard. Not just this year, but ever.\" by chAwach at Heathen Harvets

Sora, whose real name is Andrea, is a talented and highly accomplished musician who has in recent years turned her attentions to singing – something, which she seems a natural at. Sora hails from Alberta, Canada. In her teenage years Sora toured all over the world with the Calgary Youth Orchestra and Calgary Fiddlers. Some of the youngsters Sora toured with went on to become members of Barrage. Her first album was a self-produced affair called Winds of Change. The stage name Sora was chosen by Andrea to give her more musical fluidity. She is quoted as saying that she found selecting a name empowering. She believes strongly that in selecting a name for herself she has control over who she is and how she is defined musically. Sora in Japanese means ‘sky’, it is also known to mean ‘singing bird soaring’. An apt name given her style of music and her wonderful use of the outside world in her lyrics! Since the release of her debut album in 2003 Sora has teamed up with Toronto prod
