Thank you for checking out this release from Bay Area vocalist Sony Holland. This collection is filled with swing and latin rhythms and shows off Sony's effortless range, her voice flowing from a sultry whisper reminiscent of the Brazilian star Astrud Gilberto, to a sassy punch that reveals the powerful influence of Miss Peggy Lee. All eleven songs are classy and fresh, with cleverly fine tuned lyrics.
This is Sony's second disc, and the band is once again led by virtuoso pianist Dennis Burnside. It also features the beautifully melodic sax and flute work of Jim Hoke, and the smooth guitar of Pat Burgeson. While drawing deeply from the past, "On A San Francisco High" reveals a delightful artist who brings something new to the jazz world.

San Francisco High
author: Joe FuscoBy chance I caught Sony Holland and her band in Carmel at KRML. WOW - even the women in the audience thought she was hot! Her range, timing, and the emotive qualities of her voice were stunning. I was glad to get this CD with some of the songs I heard, and those qualities come through nicely on the tracks like "On a San Francisco High" and "Chestnut Street". Thank you CD Baby!!
A Voice To Remember
author: Ray JohnstonThis CD is top drawer, well presented, with great songs and musicians, something really worth buying. I was on holiday in October 2006 when I heard her singing at Pier 39. I also heard she sings elsewhere in the area but why is it that she hasn't got recognised? do people not recognise talent any more? With that rich voice Sony deserves a better future. In one review I'm glad one radio station presenter wants something to happen. I hope it does and I will be listening out for her in the future. Incidently I'm from Northern Ireland and I was a singer myself many years ago and I know a great artist when I hear one.

I grew up in San Mateo and then lived a couple of years in Marin. I was shocked to find out that Sony and her husband did not grow up in the Bay Area because they have captured the "The City" and the surrounding areas perfectly! I love cruising in my convertable listening to Sony!

Both San Francisco High and I'll Remember Paris belong in any Jazz lovers CD player.I'm hoping for more exposure for this new Gal that's surely on her way!

Sonny has a voice that is nostalgic of the great female jazz singers of the 50's. This CD is so original with great lyrics by her husband. It's romantic, jazzy, and makes you want to move your body. I loved all of the songs! I could get as attached to her music as I am to Michael Franks' orginality.
EVOCATIVE TRIBUTE TO THE BAY AREA !

The title song alone is worth the price of this CD, but in fact every song on the disc is good. Check out "In Marin" and "That's New". I love this album and I'll recommend it to all my friends. We had not been to San Francisco in several years and this trip was very special... we were immediately captivated by her cool, jazzy style.. We bought her CD and listened to it all the way to Napa Valley and back..The melodies, clever lyrics and Sony's outstanding voice create a very enjoyable experience. I listen to it EVERY DAY and remember that I have a "friend in San Francisco"...I have also bought copies of her CD to give as gifts.. I want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the magic!!)

author: DavidI was lucky enough to catch Sony performing songs from this CD at Ghirardelli Square in April 2003 and I've been anxiously awaiting its release every since. The songs are as good as her first CD (and that's saying alot) with a real feel for The City By The Bay. Listening to it, I can close my eyes and enjoy my own San Fracisco high!
