Continuum
author: john eberthContinuum is vintage Sonny Fortune. He is THE greatest living alto player. The tune, Continuum, is reminiscent of his never-to-be-matched solo on Nomo (Awakening), while in Trane and Things, he captures Trane's signature riffs from his later albums, and at an intensity only Fortune can sustain. My only complaint is that he doesn't take half hour solos, because he is the only musician who can sustain an intensity for that long without being repetitive. He can bring you out of your chair or down to your knees. He is an absolute musical treasure!
Continuum is outstanding
author: Brian from AustinThis outstanding CD is highly listenable, has great tunes, and super sax and piano on it, backed up with excellence on drums and bass.
great alto voice
author: chris schneiderI enjoyed Sonny's work and the arrangments are very exciting and emotional. I much prefer his alto saxophone to the flute and soprano, but I that's just cuz I am studying the alto and his playing is important and note worthy. "From Now On.." is my favorite Sonny Fortune cd.
More great tunes from the under-rated Sonny Fortune
author: Jeff HallIt often seems Sonny Fortune is not as appreciated as he ought to be, given his considerable talents. Anyone who has seen him perform live knows that he's a formidable player. If you haven't seen him live, I suggest you do so, but if that's not a possibility, than "Continuum" is a great snapshot of what he's all about. But I really mean it - go seem him live if you can!
A crowning achievement, masterful, emotive, not to be missed.
author: Barry NixNot only is Continuum emotional, deep, and spiritual, it is extremely enjoyable. I play it often because I want to, sometimes every day. Mongo Blue, written “around the time of Mongo Santamaria’s death” and performed on soprano, is a beautiful, meditative but airy, tree-top flight of a memorial to Sonny Fortune’s first employer upon arriving in New York from Philly.

Great CD!! It's one of the best of this year. The music really spoke to me. Thank You Sonny for your time and talent!
Great music in the Trane style
author: Alan MertensA straight-ahead collection with "Mongo Blue" being the stand out track. Giving it a lot of air-play on KUSP radio in Santa Cruz CA.

I saw Sonny and heard Sonny for the first time at the Jazz Bakery in LA in July. The artistry blew me away! I knew that I had to get CONTINUUM. Reminds me of Trane, but thank goodness it has the soul of Sonny. I am a new fan and want to experience more of Sonny Fortune.

In the tradition of John Coltrane, Sonny Fortune plays smooth ballads. The CD is really good for the late night !
Sonny Fortune's CD is good Coltrane inspired stuff.
author: Ken SchumacherA vacation will put me in striking distance of Yoshi's in Oakland, the famous jazz venue, and so I checked out their website and learned Sonny Fortune's group would be playing. Having only heard of, not actually heard, Sonny I went to his website and bought his latest, Continuum, put out on his own label and marketed through CD Baby. Well, it turned out to be a very nice, 60's styled collection of jazz originals (with just two covers) that sits well in my CD player. With George Cables on piano, doing his thing with style and grace supporting Sonny's explorations. I recommend everyone buy a copy. I will bring mine along to get signed when I see him in person at the club.
