notes
Explosive, sleek and sexy, Sonic Orchid features strong, solid, female vocals and powerful guitar-driven melodic rock. Lead singer, Christina, fuels the group with her siren-like vocals, having the ability to reach into gritty and powerful inflections to soft, sweet and sultry colors. Lead guitarist, Brad, is compared to the likes of virtuosos Joe Satriani and Neil Schonn.
Based in Regina, Saskatchewan, this 4-piece group originated as a cover band in 2002, mimicking the musical styles and on-stage intensity of hard rockers Judas Priest, ACDC and Guns n Roses. Having a female lead singer gave this group a unique twist in executing these hard rock artists. Yet songwriting quickly developed amongst the group; the group’s main focus is to build its spot as a recording and touring act.
Sonic Orchid’s influences are wide and are rooted in some of the forerunners of rock. While assuming the uplifting and worldly messages of U2 and Journey, adopting the steamy, soulful sounds of Led Zeppelin and The Black Crowes , and giving a hint of hard and heavy Metallica and Iron Maiden, the groups’ music covers a wide range of styles. Coupling classic rock with melodic metal expressions, Sonic Orchid appeals to listeners of all ages.
Sonic Orchid has managed and promoted themselves and have created a buzz successfully on their own, performing in various venues and festivals around Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta, and through internet marketing/networking, community/campus and internet radio. The group’s EP, released in the spring of 2005, has sold a substantial number of units simply through live shows and has received positive feedback from both fans and music industry professionals through fan mail and on their site on MySpace.com. Sonic Orchid has recently been added to Apple iTunes Music Store for further CD sales. Funding for the CD was awarded by Sask Music and The Government of Saskatchewan.
The group's music is presently being played on many internet and community/campus radio stations, and have gained much media exposure through print, radio and TV.
Convincing musicality, captivating stage personalities and an energetic, easy on the eyes balls to the wall rock show is driven by a raw intensity fueled by passion.
“Hot Rock Just Fun For This Foursome”
Gerry Krockak, Leader Post, Regina, Sask.
“Guitars and sex will always have their place in rock and roll. Sonic Orchid is working hard to ensure that
its repertoire will be at least as hot as the group’s steamy frontwoman. Tunes such as ‘Shoot and Run’ and ‘I Just Wanna Know’ are fueled by the siren-like vocals of Gasparic.”
“Rock Tall And Carry A Big Shtick”
Prairie Dog, Regina, Sask.
“Hard rocking Queen City quintet rattles the rafters at the Exchange. Sonic Orchid’s own material is stylistically reminiscent of The Cult and Led Zeppelin.”
“Band Offers Sweaty, Sexy Rock”
The Star Phoenix, Saskatoon, Sask.
“Sonic Orchid really knows how to whip up an audience. With a delicious blend of kick-ass rock and raw, steamy sex appeal, Sonic Orchid is intense and is guaranteed to keep you primed. Frontwoman Chris Gasparic is no wall flower, playing guitar and commanding respect with her stage persona.”
“Wow , funny, I just played crazy Lidia in my new show it will be up in 30 -
