notes

"Given the depth of Soldiers of Jah Army's "Peace In a Time of War", they come across as a band with decades of reggae wisdom behind them. True, they have been under reggae's spell since pre-high school days, but theese young lions have been a working musical outfit for only a few years. Peace In a Time of War is equal parts blazing fire and healing water, full of locked in riddims and quietly powerful vocals. Singer /guitarist Jacob Hemphill is easygoing in explaining what the band wants to achieve." We hope to influence the listeners of our music in the same way that other musicians gave us the inspiration" Let's hope they succeed- they've picked up alot from thoose who came before them, creating an entrancing sound that the next generation of singers and playerswould do well to glean from. "As opposed to the majority of popular music," Hemphill explains, "reggae has a message encouraging justice and unity. Because music can have such an impact on the way people think, it is important that this influence is in a positive way and this is why we play reggae."

- Tom Orr- of 'The Beat' Magazine

Soldiers of Jah Army - Peace In a Time of War

    author: Cool Runnings

Listen to Soja is nice but there is a reggaeband witch is really the top. Wailing Souls, Burning Spear. You can here on the voice that Soja is a white reggaeband. Black people have a better voice for reggaemusic But it is nice

  • author: Andre

Superb music in this album. Better than this only The Gladiators. The way it's sung and indeed the tone of voice reminds me at times of Dave Matthews and that's great for me. It's just a pity all the religious stuff. Religion is a substitute for humanity and as such kills it. Haile Selassie I reminds of Brian in Monty Python's movie. C'mon rastafari, it's the 21st century, get over it. Great songs. When are you coming to Portugal?

  • very good effort
    author: Jan aka Sir Marvin

What a pleasent surprise! This album is a wonderful showcase for upcoming group. This is a purely roots album with live instruments and righteous lyrics (a little too much righteous for my personal taste, but what does that matter?). Fans of legendary groups like The Gladiators or Wailing Souls should certainly check this album.

  • one of my best cd buys
    author: Ellen

This cd is so awesome, it's just as great (or even better) as their first one. All the songs are very chill and the song lyrics are meaningful and worth listening to. It is the kind of cd you can listen to no matter what mood you're in and it never gets old. Definetly worth the money.

    author: SeanLesh

What else can i say, awesome album, positive music, good vibes. Must have.

  • I am impressed.
    author: Herman Hendricks, Jr.

I really enjoyed this album; the entire ensemble of instruments and professional talent really shows. I was expecting to like only the one song (Peace In A Time of War) I heard elsewhere (Creation Steppin Radio via live365.com). After reviewing the intro for other tracks, then ordering and listening to the entire CD, I am happy to say that I am very impressed. Being a black man from the heart of the Caribbean (Bigup to all St. Croix and V.I. massives!), and this group being white and from Washington DC, I was unprepared for what I heard. These brothers know what they are doing, and I encourage them to keep up the good work. Jah guide!

Peace in a Time of War has to be one of the best reggae records on the market. If you enjoy Bob Marley and the Wailers, Steel Pulse, or even Sublime you will fall in love with this album. It is solid all the way through, I cant even figure out which track is my favorite because they are all intense. Roots Reggae at its best. Keep jammin SOJA

Surpriseingly great reggae.Good variation and generously much playtime(67:45).One negative thing: Not perfect quality sound on some tracks. But I can live with that. The song as well as the rest was more than approved.

  • talented
    author: shy calr

talented vocalist a real performer . hard working artists who work in the studio. if you want a good live performance use psychology and say if they work in the studio and they work in real life it will work for me.

  • Crucial roots reggae!
    author: DJ Bahilman

This is one of the best roots reggae albums of the year from any country, and is certainly a measuring stick for American reggae bands. Songs such as "Non-Partial, Non-Political" and "Peace in a Time of War" are modern classics. Nuff other solid work on this one- no filler. Highly recommended.
