Press Release

This is what one of the world's most well-known jazz musicians has to say about the release of the 'Steffen Kuehn Nonet'-CD 'Now or Later,' featuring 2001 Grammy Nominee Tim Hagans (Released : September 2002):

I'm always so excited when I hear of a new band springing up in the jazz world. It shows tremendous love and dedication to the music to see players caring enough to put in the time and energy necessary to create a group as strong as the 'Steffen Kuehn Nonet.' I have listened to this music several times prior to writing anything about it. Each time I was drawn deeper into the intensity of the writing and playing herein. These cats are 100% sincere about what they are doing. It's such a breath of fresh air!

The playing of Tim Hagans has come to represent a new level of harmonic curiosity and performance for ALL of us trumpeters, worldwide. In addition, everyone else in the group is playing right up to Tim's level, as if he has inspired them to seek higher ground.

Steffen Kuehn holds his own in an interplay session with Tim on the title track 'Now or Later' and on 'Forced FN,' The rhythm section keeps everything honest and burning, most notably Jonathan Alford's piano playing. W. Roth's writing is as good as anything I have ever heard. These guys are fortunate to have the opportunity to play music of this high artistic quality.

So, I guess you can tell how much I personally love this recording. I hope it gets a lot of exposure and hearings worldwide. It would do us ALL some good to hear music such as this more frequently! I wish Steffen Kuehn and the band great success and joy with this wonderful group.
