notes
The long-awaited duo session with Skip Heller and one of the other most creative thinkers to come out of the Philly jazz scene, revisiting the stuff they were playing when they first met back in the early 1980's.
Those of you who are relatively new (say, the last five years) to the music of Skip Heller know him as a jazz guitarist whose greasy rhythm and blues roots can be offset by touches of everything from film noir to Roadrunner cartoon music.
But those who go back with him know -- REALLY know -- what an oversimplification that is.
TIL THINGS ARE BRIGHTER -- his first non-organ disc in five years -- finds Heller backed only by one of this generation's most brilliant pianists, playing standards and jazz tunes. Not only is he at his most breathtakingly lyrical, but also at his most introspective, with beautiful interpretations of compositions by Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Hank Mobley, three standards, and one original (the title cut, written in memory of Johnny Cash).

author: michael-Sydney, AustraliaREALLY good selection of songs and very well arranged and played my ONLY complaint is that the album is too short. Anyone who loves some cool jazz will enjoy this
