A really great live bootleg of the hardest-working trio in jazz today.

notes

The Skip Heller Trio is an asskicking. If they hate you, you'll know it (ask that crowd in Tulsa who earned an ear-splitting half-hour version of "Freebird"). Most of the time, they adore their audience and play until their hands bleed.

Here we have a magnificient bootleg of a night in the life of the most hardworking trio you ever did hear. There's hardly any such thing as a typical Skip Heller Trio gig, but this show (taped from the audience at Skip's favorite club) sums up the group, its roots, and stylistic scope. Two originals, two standards, and one song each from David Bowie and Rufus Wainwright. The music is at turns playful, frighteningly intense, and/or devilishly offhanded.
