notes
All About Jazz says "Skip Heller is like genius by lightning strike".
Here, now, finally, collected together, the very best of Skip Heller, the Philly born/Los Angeles based guitarist whose recorded output has at once defied jazz convention while staying loyal to its history. Klezmer, cartoon music, classical, country, soul, surf and more have a place in this gumbo, but Heller always keeps the blues close at hand. You've heard Skip's music on TONY HAWK'S GIGANTIC SKATE PARK TOUR, THE BERNIIE MAC SHOW, DEXTER'S LABORATORY, and THE FLINTSTONES, plus in a some indie movies that very few people actually ever saw.
The titles with an asterisk (*) by them are unreleased: unreleased cut from BEAR FLAG, some scorching hot live reworkings, and two duo cuts with pianist Heath Allen that are at once playful and instrospective.
A must have for both the newbie and the veteran Skip Heller fan.
