Press:

"Friel's guitar work is exceptional. His voice recalls the tone and phrasing of Randy Newman, Leonard Cohen and, at times, Van Morrison. The mix of guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, pedal steel and violin is nearly perfect .... "Twilight Red Sky" would be a natural for heavy play list rotation."

Quotes:

"His wonderful debut CD, ‘Twilight Red Sky,’ is full of gems, enabling the listener to truly feel the joy and pain that only a talented singer can convey. There’s a raw emotion to both Friel’s songwriting and performance. Press Release: Jan. 8th, 2007

New Moon Music announces the release of Skip Friel’s debut album, Twilight Red Sky. The album is a heartfelt, insightful collection of songs examining life experiences to which everyone can relate. Tracks include ‘Jump in Nathaniel’—a moving ‘welcome to the world’ from a father to his young son and ‘The Universe Changed’—a powerful account of hurt, hope and forgiveness. Each song is a lyrical picture framed by a unique musical idea, and Friel’s brand of progressive acoustic rock carries a fresh tone throughout.

Best known for his emotion-filled vocal performances and innovative guitar techniques, Skip has been a popular mainstay at Eastern Virginia venues. He is the brother of New Moon Music founder, Randy Friel, who produced this album. This recording reunites the musical brothers who last performed together more than two decades ago.

We are very excited about releasing these compositions. The lyrics are richly layered and supported by sublime instrumental accompaniment. Perhaps the album’s most striking sonic trademarks are seamless harmonies and vocal blends. Skip's compositions draw inspiration from a deep well of American music. Elements of blues, nuevo-folk and rock come alive in a journey across fresh, yet familiar musical landscape.

From the opening track's infectious melody to the final track's instrumental refrain, this dynamic album has the spirit to catch your interest and hold your heart.
