notes
Skink is the debut release by Newbury, UK based electronica artist Paul Mulholland. The album is the fruits of five years of labour. The tracks were recorded in a variety of locations and situations and mirror a musical and personal journey.
Although the album takes is influenced by bands such as Boards of Canada, Brian Eno, Plaid and the ambient works of Richard D. James (AFX, Aphex Twin), Skink manages to create his own identity amongst these pioneers.
The album touches on many musical styles from the sparse piano opening track “Nothing” to the dark unsettling ambience of “Minutes turn to Hours” to the melodic and dreamlike “Who we are?”
Best listened to in a single sitting Skink should hopefully drag the listener into its rich and complex world of musical ideas and sonic textures.
Tracks from the album have recently been played on Annie Nightingale’s BBC Radio 1 show and the Dutch specialist music show X-Rated on Kink FM. The track “You Know That Place Well” is also appearing on the cover mount CD of the Dutch magazine Gonzo Circus.
